Has Anyone Ever Regretted Getting a Cat?

Crusher is right- feed 'em, give 'em plenty of fresh water, and a nice clean litterbox, and they pretty much take care of themselves. Some need occasional brushing, and others need a lot of attention.

And the ones that don't like attention are the most fun. You just snuggle wuggle them and they get all pissed and try to squirm away.

ETA: I have 3 litterboxes, one for each cat and an extra in case somebody gets sick during the day while I'm at work. I had scooped 2 out of 3 this morning, and Beverly's tapping her paw wanting me to finish. I told her I had "2 clean stalls, no waiting!" but she wanted me out of the room so she could pee.

So I decided to just snoogle oggle her and tickle her under her chin. While I was doing that, Owen walked in and cut in front of her in line for the litterbox.

Boy, she was pissed! :guffaw:

A pet is for life, not just for christmas.
I was going to leave this alone, but it's bugging me, so here goes.

I don't blame you. I felt the same way and it wasn't even my post!

As for my two cents, when my wife originally told me she wanted to get a cat because she felt there was something missing from our home I wasn't all that enthusiastic even though I like cats.

We talked it over and I made it clear that I was happy without one but if she wanted to get a cat I told her that we had to get two so that they could keep each other company while we were both at work.

Fast forward three years and I am hopelessly in love with the two kitties we rescued and I've pretty much taken over all responsibility for them. So if you do decide to get one you might find that you end up having a new best friend!

Spike agrees with me. Give one of his brothers a home.

Like I said, they are tiny women in cheap fur coats.

I've had a lot of cats in my life. Lost my fair share of them too. Have i regretted it? Only when they run away and i never see them again, but even then ... i wouldn't trade in those memories for anything.
I have 2 cats now, and i love them to death.

The only thing that really bugs me about my cat is that she prevents me from going out of town for extended periods of time. It's a little easier now that I live closer to my parents because they can stop by and check on her, but before it was nearly impossible to leave for more than a day or two.

Also, I regret that my cat doesn't let me use her as a pillow. She's so soft!

Don't you have a vet that boards animals? I have a terrific feline vet that will board animals. It's not cheap, but I know they're safe, well looked after, and it gives me peace of mind.

One word: Velcro.

What about a professional pet sitter?

Mine do. Beverly even lets me slide my feet under her tummy when we're on the couch. :D :D :D

That's what i love about living 2 blocks away from my best friend. Whenever the whole family goes away, i ask him to look after the cats.

1) I am cheap.

2) My cat is such a tremendous pain in the ass that getting her into her carrier is literally a 3-person job (or a 2-person job, if you don't mind it taking about 45 minutes to accomplish).

If I really needed to go out of town for a long time, I'm sure my parents would take her for a while. It's just a minor annoyance.

I have only once regretted having a cat in my life. That was when after 21 years, she decided that she didn't want to live any more.

After the pain passed, I decided that I couldn't hold those feelings against all cats. Soon after, another one chose to hang out with me. :)

I've never regretted any cat I've had. Like was said before they need food, water, an out-of-the-way litter box (Just so you know, that litter can get a good distance away from the litter box, so keep an eye out.) and some good love and attention. Lint rollers are a must as is a scratching post. Do not get one that uses carpeting, buy one with rough wood, or anything else. With carpeting they'll see anything with fabric as a scratching post.

Also, and this is my opinion, do not get the cat declawed. It's cruel to the cat. It may save your furniture, but it can be torture to the cat. If you get a kitten start getting its nails clipped it as soon as your vet says it's okay. And keep it up so the cat gets used to it. It's better for the cat than surgery.

And the nail clipping is not that big of a deal. Really. I even got a really tricky almost ingrown one on Beverly's front claw taken care of last week. I thought she was gonna bite me but I wore gloves.

I say go for it Kestmas Tree. Our cat, Squeaky, or "Boo Boo" (because he's Beautiful ~ you may now groan) is lovely and I can't imagine my family without him.

He's an "ex-tom" (he didn't talk to me for a week after the op!), tuxedo, short haired, no particular breed ~ I think the vet has him under "generic house cat".

Apart from waking us up at 6am for breakfast, being a bit picky about his food and sitting on the keyboard or the newspaper when you want to use them, which do actually enhance his adorability, he's wonderful.

He may try to kill you by tripping you up on the way to the kitchen to feed him, but that has just enhanced my dance steps!

On Friday nights, when the man and son are out and I have an early night with TNG, Squeaks will cuddle up with me and lay his head in the bend of my arm and purr to me.

And according to research ~ stroking a cat is very good for reducing your blood pressure.

And they're just cute...

Oh... wait wrong picture... There you go ~ totally adorable!

The best part of having a cat is asking people if they want to rub your pussy, and when they say "yes," you hand them the feline.

Sounds just like my son! (He's too big for actually sitting on the keyboard, but little fingers will reach up when you least expect it and start pressing keys!)
