Home for those who dislike this movie?

Why do you need to go on about people going on about it?

Just move on.
Why drone on about people who don't like what you like. If you dislike their opinions so much just ignore them.

Is there a specific forum where I can read comments and thoughts from those who disliked this movie?

I would have preferred a direct to DVD incarnation of Trek to The Abomination and it's unholy "reboot" mentality.

And I just don't get why so many people like it; let alone Star Trek fans. I can't wrap my mind around it. It's bad enough that it is a betrayal of everything that Star Trek was and represented, but it is also just plain a horrible, horrible, horrible movie. I've never seen a movie THIS bad, ever.

It looks like you found the right place :guffaw:

It may be the NEW star trek, but it will never be MY star trek*
You know, I truly believe that there is no such thing as "My Star Trek" unless you yourself write, direct, film, star, edit, distribute, and watch the piece of work.

You are always watching someones interpretation of a story. The more people involved, the more removed the story becomes from the pureness of the original.

Pure Trek (or MY Trek) only exists in ones mind. The moment you tell the Trek story to someone else, it is no longer pure, no longer My Trek.

That there was at one time a Trek that approximated that which you believed to be the correct Trek, is mostly coincidental. If Trek was ever exactly what you wanted it to be, you are delusional.

There are always things that could have been changed to reflect that which a particular viewer would have wanted to see. On the whole, there are more individuals that believe that Abrams produced a work that was closer to their "MY Trek" than there are individuals who do not believe that Abrams produced a work that even closely resembled their "MY Trek".

*Attribution remove because the "you" in the response is the collective "you"

This is Star Trek from now on. Try not to whine so much.

Exactly. Anyway, everything that came after TOS (including some of the TOS-cast movies) did as much or more to "hurt" Star Trek than this movie did.

it may be the NEW star trek, but it will never be MY star trek

This sound like people I work with who say "He may be the President, but he's not my President."

i dont like to whine, but can i still bitch about it? it may be the NEW star trek, but it will never be MY star trek

Why drone on endlessly about something you don't like? Just ignore NuTrek if you dislike it so much. Alot like what I do with Voyager and, to a lesser extent, Enterprise.

"drone on" hmm, if you are a fan of the film there are hundreds of threads you could particapate in, and drone on to your hearts content. why come into the one dedicated to those who in fact do NOT like the film and try to stir up trouble? get back under your bridge please.

and as for mr Hambone and your veiled attempt to liken to liken me to your racist friends... for shame.

Clearly, you haven't seen enough bad movies . . . . :)

May I recommend VAN HELSING or BATMAN & ROBIN?

Or maybe STAR TREK V?

I disliked the movie as well and for one simple reason. Stupid Humor! Way to much stupid humor. The whole fat hands, numb tongue sequence was just painful to observe. Kirk banging head on support in shuttle? Not funny. Silly look on aliens face sitting between Kirk and Uhura in bar. Not funny. Scottys little metal eyed friend?Beyond words bad and never funny.

Dont get me wrong, some of the humor was well thought out and was funny. Most of it though was very bad and should have been cut or rewritten.

Oh come on whiners that don't care for this awesome spectacle of a movie maybe there should be a home for NuTrek lovers like me.

Where were you and your "husband" when Travis Mayweather and Hoshi Sato were lighting up the screen with a 1.1 rating? "True" Star Trek could have used some help back then.

Hello,

We were wincing and watching and hoping it would get better. Any minute now.

I really thought the concept and setting was excellent, it just wasn't written well enough at first and there were some really terrible episodes early on. I didn't care for the endless Xindi storyline either. Why on Earth didn't they focus on the recovery from WWIII, the formation of the Federation, Prime Directive, first contacts, etc, right from the outset? Poor decision.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, I have started a thread based on my query.

Is it impolite to mention my husband? I do not want to snarl and snipe at each other.

I wonder why Trek fans are often so grouchy. Perhaps it is a sign of intelligence.

My biggest issue with the movie was pretty fundamental. I think they should have trashed all of the characters.

I found the recasting of Trek characters somewhat ridiculous. It was done pretty well sure, but I've come to the conclusion that it's just not what I'm looking for in "Trek". It feels sorta like confused fanboy stroking or something. I love Trek but I do not need reimagined '60s styles or characters in new sci-fi to live a happy life. This aspect is definitely unique about this movie compared to the classics and certainly changes what Trek fiction is apparently supposed to be about.

So yeah I guess I'm ready for somebody to come up with new sci-fi and don't really care what the geniuses in charge of NuTrek (hehe) do next.

I'm having a hard time describing what I mean but basically the new movie is a fundamental shift in what Trek is about. It's not really about the future of mankind entirely, but more about re-experiencing prior characters with cliched humor spouted by new actors, reimagined '60s styles, and not-so-great or forward-looking plot lines. It just didn't do it for me.

The thing is I know that some Trekkies live for those characters and those styles. I'm glad those people get this fan service if it makes them happy but I am ready for new sci-fi ideas.

Further, the movie's story reminds me of Nemesis. Angry Romulan-originating villian with supership carrying out angryness with semi-dumb motives and 1 dimensional, black/white development. And then predictable action scenes ensue including goofy "animals attack" scenes, semi-annoying Scotty humor w/ Ewok friend, and a shot of engineering waterworks w/ blender. That doesn't help me love the movie either.

I have serious concerns about the future of true Star Trek, I fear that the popularity of this Abrams film will take it off of the rails forever. Will we ever have a new TV series based in the true timeline - not from the "rebootverse"? Will we have films in the future, based in the regular timeline

Unlikely, on both counts. That's more of an issue with Enterprise than XI though. If the show had been any good, there wouldn't have been any need for a reboot.

Do trekkies even matter anymore? They couldn't save Enterprise- despite that hilarious "Let's raise 52 million and give it to Paramount for a fifth season" collect-a-thon. And they were probably the only people in the theater that even noticed, let alone cared, that the new movie is a reboot.

Of course, the mainstreaming of Trek leaves open the possibility that some clever new tv producer can come along with some incredibly convoluted and canon-heavy nerd show to fill the void. It could be successful if the budget were low enough.
