Episodes you skip on the shows you love

I know I seem to be in the minority re: "Love & Monsters."

Nah. It and "Fear Her" are probably the two single worst episodes of the revival. They are truly awful. Even "Last of the Time Lords" is about 10 percent brilliance, and "Journey's End" at least has a pretty kickin' rad Davros. "Love & Monsters" and "Fear Her," though ... guh.

There's also Season 5's Why we Fight,

:cardie: I loved Why We Fight, I thought it was hilarious. Life of the Party is the place to lean on 'skip to next title' on that season.

Buffy in particular has a few skipables for me.
Dead Man's Party is just dire, I hated everyone having a go at Buffy in turn for the weirdest stuff. Xander especially. Grow up, the lot of you.
Beer Bad is just... weird.
All the Way and Older and Far Away are both the whiny Dawn showcases - no thank you.
And whatever the s7 arc episode is where they kick Buffy out.

I like RTD and that still made me laugh.

NCIS:
"Probie", in which the still-green McGee accidentally kills an undercover cop. I can't bring myself to watch him make such a terrible mistake.

"Model Behavior". Reality show featuring sexy women in Marine boot camp. Yeah, right.

"Bete Noire". I saw some of the other Ari Haswari episodes first, and hated the guy too much to watch this one.

Law & Order: SVU:
I forget the title, but it's the episode in which Alex Cabot violates professional ethics to get evidence against a child molester. I can't watch her cross that line, either.

Well, I liked Love and Monsters. It had very much a "Lower Decks" and "Marvels" feel to it (both those stories followed our heroes -- the TNG crew and the Marvel superheroes, respectively -- from the POV of outsiders). The only thing I didn't like about it was the decision to play the monster like Fat Bastard from Austin Powers. Otherwise I thought it worked fine. And Fear Her wasn't that bad, but it might have worked better as a Sarah Jane episode.

I wouldn't skip either of them. I am, however, less interested in some of the lesser classic series stories such as The Gunfighters, The Twin Dilemma, and Time and the Rani. One great thing about the decision by BBC Video to release most stories separately (with some exceptions) is you can pick and choose what ones you want.

As far as other shows go, TNG's first season I find virtually unwatchable in toto (except for maybe the award-winning Long Goodbye). I'm also less than fond of TOS's third season, though there are a few good episodes amongst the Spock's Brains.

I don't know about The Gun Fighters (never actually seen it) but the I think most fans would prefer to skip The Twin Dilema though Time And The Rani is watchable just.

Other than the great "11001001" and "Conspiracy," pretty much everything else in TNG's first season is awful and fully skip-able. Sometimes I might go back to "Where No One Has Gone Before" or "Datalore," but when I try something like the pilot, I can't handle more than 5 or 10 minutes, and the re-watch finds itself in season 2 rather quickly.

DS9:

Valient and Profit and Lace

I haven't seen these episodes in a long time, and when I did rewatch the series a few years ago, I skipped these two. I can pretty much watch anything, but for some reason these two episodes really irked me.

Wow great question. I can't really think of any specific show or episode/s that I will skip but I have been known to skip random episodes. I'll have to think about this.

Sometimes when I watch The Prisoner, I'll skip a few of the non-village filler episodes. It's known some of these episodes were created to boost the episode count and have little relation to the rest of the series.

That said, They're not too bad, just remarkably different from the rest of the series. I really like seeing Mcgoohan in a western, and the ridiculous spy adventure of Girl Who Was Death is lots of fun.

Now, if we are talking bad, I often can't bring myself to watch Twin Peaks after the excellent first half. I sometomes just skip to the finale.

No matter how good of a series it is, there are at least 5 bad episodes that shouldn't exist and can be skipped over. Here are some examples of what I tend to ignore or skip over when re-watching stuff on DVD:

Angel:
"The Bachelor Party"
"She"
"Shroud of Rahmon"
"Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco"
"Why We Fight"

Battlestar Galactica:
"Black Market"
"Hero"
"A Day in the Life"
"The Woman King"
"Dirty Hands"

Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
"The Pack"
"Inca Mummy Girl"
"Go Fish"
"Beer Bad"
"Doublemeat Palace"

DS9:
Any Ferengi-centric episode
"The Passenger"
"Move Along Home"
"Rivals"
"Paradise"
"Meridian"

TNG:
"Code of Honor"
"Justice"
"Angel One"
"Loud as a Whisper"
"Shades of Grey"

"Paradise"

Thank You! I swear, every thread I ever started on this ep attracts in the 'well, it was realistic' auto-response. To let someone that vile walk off so smugly w/o the colonists at least destroying the box had me fic-writing soon after.

I recall Joseph saying how they'd invested their lives there. No, pal. Your lives were embezzled and invested for someone else's scientific curiosity. The idea, tech-disdain aside, that they would even contemplate still using the tech-killing device again when they had needlessly buried loved ones because of it went beyond Stockholm Syndrome into 'writer making a pointless point'. Live low-tech. Live rustically. I'm sure it's actually easier to live low-tech in that time, because a small amount of tech can guarantee the basics. Don't live in it, if its not your thing, but if people have to die so you can 'regain' something, then you've lost one hell of a lot more.

Oh, Lord, where do I start...

M*A*S*H: Nine-tenths of the episodes after Radar left. You can condense those three years down to maybe half a dozen good episodes. Even the two-and-a-half-hour finale, maybe you can clean twenty good minutes out of it. A series that definitely stayed around too long.

TOS: A lot of third-season episodes hold up okay. I cannot, however, watch "Plato's Stepchildren" or "And the Children Shall Lead."

TNG:
Most of the first season. The first half of the second. After that, "Imaginary Friend" is about the only one that comes to mind.

Buffy: "Reptile Boy" -- if you're going to make "Animal House with Demons," make it entertaining. "Helpless" is really hard to watch -- Watcher ritual or not, it's hard to believe Giles would actually do that to Buffy. And I still will not watch anything after the next to last scene of "Seeing Red." Killing Tara was unforgivable.

Angel: The last season, for a variety of reasons.

The episode that first springs to mind for me is Voyager's "In the Flesh". I absolutely hate this episode because they take a unique alien species (Species 8472) and turn them into just another group of changelings. It seems however I am in the minority when it comes to this episode.

I also hate the Voyager episodes "The Disease", "Fair Haven" and "Spirit Folk" and "Favourite Son".

As far as TNG goes the two episodes that come instantly to mind are "Justice" and "When the Bough Breaks".
