SGA - Finishing up the series

I just finished watching SGA all the way through from S2-5 (I saw S1 when it originally aired). I had seen some disparaging comments now and then in the general scifi board toards the show, and even my friends who were huge SG1 fans never seemed to be hyper enthusiastic about it. I have to say I'm glad I did. I don't disagree with many of the many comments about reusing sets too many times, the forest appearing over and over etc. It also went over the line of corny many times and at times it seemed much more cartoon-like than SG1 (at least S1-5 or so).

Still, I really enjoyed SGA as a popcorn scifi show and when it did manage to strive towards good drama it did a fantastic job. It struck me that overall, it was a very strong cast that worked together very well. Were they the best actors ever? Really no, but they sold me on the parts they played.

I also enjoyed a lot of the effects work. It was really fun seeing lots of 'splosions and ship scenes in space. It was definitely a high energy show.

I find myself slightly sad that it's over. I would have liked to see what place Atlantis plays now in its new location and what role it will play. I'm also curious what would happen to the Pegasus galaxy now.

I am enjoying SGU a lot, but it's a very different animal than SGA was. It's nice to see the SG legacy continuing but I'll miss SGA.

I agree that it wasn't a bad show, but it wasn't as consistently good as SG-1. When SGA was good, it was fun, and when it was bad, it was really really bad. I can't watch re-runs of Spin City anymore because of Richard Kind's two horrible episodes.

The Atlantis movie will address what happens to Atlantis and the future of the Pegasus galaxy. Assuming that it ever gets made.

SGU is very different from SGA, and I have been suffering a bit from 'ammo withdrawl' so going back to Atlantis to watch Midway, or one of the many other action heavy episodes really balances out the SGU character drama.

Without a full 6th season I can't see enough SG-A moves being made to wrap up the show properly. No way can The Wraith be wiped out so your looking at even a huge civil war among them or some sort of peace using that possible treatment so they don't have to feed. We have the Asgard rebels out there and my guess is SG-U might touch upon that but most likely a DVD movie could sort that one out.

The main flaw with the SG franchise is unlike other SCI FI counterpart franchises, we've never had a series finale wrap up for any of its shows and thats annoying.

Agreed that there are a ton of storylines left hanging. I think the one that is foremost on my mind is - without Atlantis and her crew in the Pegasus galaxy, what's to stop the Wraith from just running hog wild all over the place now? Granted they caused havoc even with Atlantis there but now there really is no one there to help. Even the Asgard rebels admitted they didn't have the power to stand up against them as a whole. While the ending was all pretty and nice, part of me just kept thinking "Oh crap, the Pegasus galaxy is screwed!"

The wraith civil war and the lack of enough clones were already taking their toll on the wraith.

I agree, however they were still a very potent force and we knew cullings were continuing. I do wonder however if Michael's spreading of the Wraith-food-source-tainting virus is enough to help balance things out in concert with the civil war and clone shortage.

Maybe we'll just hope that Ford is out there thrashing Wraith. ;)

I really loved David's episodes with his sister, they were always neat, made a good team in and out of character.

What I really didn't like about SGA was the potential that was lost in the series, to have this awe and wonder about the Ancients and their technology. SGU thankfully has brought that awe and wonder back, but SGA failed in being the "lost in another galaxy" series, SGU is doing better in that sense.

Agreed, the sibling episodes were fantastic and I was happy to see her pop up in more than one episode, even if it was just in a brief scene.

I have to agree re: the tech. After a while it was like there was nothing Rodney couldn't figure out with ancient tech and a Dell laptop. It fit the mode of the show after a while so I just ran with it, but in SGU I'm taking the "all bets are off" approach.
