I tell you people. They are sure hitting their stride. Every episode is just excellent. If this is what SGA was it wouldnt have been cancelled. And I also predict that SG:U is gonna go down as a better series than even SG-1.
I really liked the way they shot most of the episode with the Kino. But I was a little disappointed by the cutt off ending.

Did anyone miss the phone home aspect of the show this week? I sorta did. But I still enjoyed this. And it's not like none of it happened or had any impact. They probably figured out that Scott's message would have to have been the second such attempt. It would be fun to see them wracking their brains over how it all really played out.
One of the problems: The time loop was to close to "real time" events. Now if they had thrown it a 5 or 6 years into the future and left the show on the note that they were hiding for this doom, then maybe it wouldn't have been such a cheat. As it is, it's like TNG's "Cause and Effect", the loop just keeps repeating till someone gets the message.
No, not at all. The loop was not self-perpetuating. Only the act of throwing the Kino through the stargate that sent it back in time (many years) and caused the 'next loop'. If they had not, everyone would have died.
Depends on if it was a predestination paradox of not: The kino went back in time, cause they had already sent it back in time, which caused them to go back to the planet, which in turn meant scott throws the Kino back in time, which means they find the Kino, which means....on and on into the possibilty of several repeating cycles. The cycle was only broken cause they got the short-hand message that told them what to do.
Which is how "Cause and Effect" worked, the same events replayed and it wasn't till they got the message that they saved the ship and broke the cycle.
Damn I would have directed this one differently
I don't think there will be ramifications to the overall story, just by the way the episode itself feels like a one-off and kept going back to sleep and then restarting once more. People complain about necromancy with scifi characters by throwing them into these resetting time loops, where did it all start? Was it Beckett, maybe it was Dr Jackson who started the trend or was it a Star Trek TNG time loop thing? Heck the reset button is an old idea on tv, the reset button on tv shows goes way, way back. Look up the soap opera reset button on wiki and you see it has a long history. The reset button is not an opportunity to do a ridley scott aliens style documentary....yet the rest button is usually the prefect time to set up Pamela Barnes Ewing moment
but instead of Bobby magically appearing in the shower at the end of the episode we get to see Chole's booty instead

I thought this was the most enjoyable one yet. Using the Kino was a good excuse for the dodgy camerawork (although the fact that nobody has bothered to clean the lens or even notice that it's all grungy is a good metaphor for this type of storytelling).
The writing was well done, with a bunch of good character moments. Nobody acted like a retard or an adolescent. The scene where Eli was talking about his Mother on the screen was excellent. Rush's shrug and "Butch Cassidy" moment were very good. Even Greer was well done.
I enjoyed the "What If" scenario. I really don't get this current "Reset Button" business. These stories are a great way to see how characters respond in situations that are unworkable in main continuity. Who cares about repercussions? The story is the story, and the viewer is outside of it.
I agree with those who thought that this episode actually felt like Stargate; I hope it's a sign that they'll be restoring that aesthetic on a permanent basis.

Well now they now about the tainted water and the creature venom and they sleep during the day. So they should be able to retrieve water from that planet as long as they leave before nightfall.
Here we go with the Aliens inspired thing again. They only have the ammo on their vest but an alien shows up and everyone switches their M4s and M16 to rock and roll. Didn't they all get replaced with a new model limiting the shooter to 3 round burst like 20 years ago?
Well, Eli did acknowledge the similarity to Aliens.
They've got the option to go single shot, burst, or full auto, I believe.
I was just thinking last night that they really need to get a couple of the more medically-minded in the crew to start using the stones to go to long-distance medical school. In a few years, they could be full-blown M.D.s.
I gave it a 6. The camera work at the beginning started out as interesting and quickly went to annoying.
The plot was interesting and I was disappointed I didn't pick up on the time travel when the event horizon started freaking out. So that was enjoyable.
Excellent ending as it was spelled out enough and we didn't need to see it.
I still can't stand the Rush charater and don't care about anyone except for the 'boy' wonder. And he only marginally.
It needed some RDA.

Jeeze, I'm so sick of people misinterpreting that scene. She's not snickering. She's trying not to cry. Kelso got it. Some people just smile a little when they're sad or uncomfortable with a situation. It's not a 'ha-ha' smile, it's an involuntary expression of anxiety, a grimace.
The ship will still power up the engines to enter FTL but the gate will stay on a little longer instead of cutting out right away as the engine powers up.
Delaying reentry to FTL seemed to shake the ship up. I suspect forcing a conflict like that would eventually lead to a loud explosion.
Even if the engines dont overload, that would only buy them an extra 38 minutes minus however long the gate had already been active. So its not really an ideal solution to the FTL deadline.
As to the episode itself, id say its the strongest episode of SGU so far, even with the reset at the end. 'Time' took a familiar Stargate situation, then gave it a far darker edge. Which if i recall correctly is exactly what they said their aim for the show was.
The reset doesnt negate the character development we've seen. Sure the characters dont know that Rush and Young have something in common anymore, but the audience does. We know how Eli feels about Chloe, and its shown us how the various characters react to death.
So i'd give it 9 chevrons myself.
