Fox being Fox again?

We got a House rerun instead of Dollhouse this week, and we're getting House and Bones reruns next week instead of Dollhouse.

I'm getting those old Firefly/Tru calling/Space: A&B/Alien Nation/every other genre show except X-Files feelings baout this turn of events.

Has Fox dropped the axe, despite promising to show all of Season 2?

To be fair to Fox (and speaking as a Whedon fan), I doubt this show would have survived no matter HOW well they treated it.

To the OP: I'm kind of surprised that you weren't already aware of DH being replaced during November with House and Bones reruns, since it was announced a couple of weeks ago. FOX had initially hinted that they might be pulling DH during sweeps, but later released a schedule that had the show still on the air, giving the impression that they had decided against taking that route; however, the release of that schedule proved to be premature, as they announced only a few days later that they were indeed pulling the show during sweeps as had been previously hinted at.

Once the show comes back in December, it will air the first 3 Fridays of that month, be off the air over Christmas, and then come back on the air again in January to finish its 13-episode run.

Well, I think what they promised was to air all episodes made so far, which they will, and that will add up to 13. But it doesn't look like it'll get the full (22 episode) season. So yes, and yes.

Really I can't complain. The show probably would have done better if it had a) been advertised more and b) not been put in the Friday night death slot but beyond that Fox has treated the show pretty well. I really didn't think it would get renewed last season and it looks like this season Fox is at least going to produce and air all the episodes.

They should have brought in the 2019 angle from the start. That's what is really holding people's interest at this point: the knowledge of where this is all going. If they'd done that reveal sooner and gave it a more central focus, the ratings might have held together better.

Absolutely. I enjoyed the first season (haven't watch the second one yet), but "Epitaph One" was a completely different world!

For those of you who bought the DVD, anyway! I have no idea what happened in the "you must spend $40 to see this episode" episode or what the season is leading into.

I believe that Dollhouse was originally going to have a different timeslot (possibly post-Idol?), and then Fox went and changed their minds and put the show in the Friday death slot. Friday night is NOT the night to premiere a new series on any broadcast network. Period. Air a game show, or reality TV, or reruns. That's fine. But don't premiere a brand new series and expect it to perform well on a Friday night.

So yeah, the timeslot was a bad move. Fox's early network interference also hurt the series. The early episodes felt mostly boring and uninteresting. It wasn't until the later in season 1 that the series began to get interesting (I was actually about to pull the plug on the show myself, when I noticed a sudden shift in the tone and writing... Fox had stopped meddling with the creative process).

Still, I must say I am surprised that Fox has been this patient with the show. I expected the axe to swing quickly, and yet the show got a surprise renewal and they are going to air all 13 episodes of season 2. It's an improvement over Firefly, at least.
