IDW formally announces Sulu comic

I also like to see one on Captain Spock as well. Spock became Captain long after Kirk got promted. Anyways I love to see a Captain serirs or book based on each of those as both Kirk and Spock are my most favorites!
For this comic, as I understand it, I'm not all that interested in a Kirk story -- that's what the mainline books are for. But a Captain Spock story could be pretty neat.

I can safely tell you that a wide variety of captains from all eras are on the list along with a number of writers and artists. Wish they could be announced but not all scripts have been approved by Paramount so it would be premature. But let's just say, I'm excited.

Bob, are you doing work with IDW? Your tenure on the DC books--both the first and second TOS lines and TNG--was my favorite era of Trek comics, and I'd be thrilled to see you work on some more.

^ Absolutely seconded. I would dearly love to see Bob's name on the credits of a Star Trek comic book again!

Could they do an Archer issue if he gets disfigured to the point that he doesn't look like Scott Bakula?

I believe there's at least one notable captain in the series that nobody's mentioned on their top-5 lists yet...and Bob is right, I think people are going to be seriously impressed with the creator list they've put together.

Also, and this is just speculation, but given IDW's involvement in Countdown, I wouldn't be surprised to see a Captain Data/B4 issue.

I wouldn't be surprised there myself. I'm also looking forward to a Captain Riker story, also would love to see Ezri Dax, Mac Calhoun, even a Elizabeth Shelby storyline. So many different captains, its just hard to pick who I really want to see more.

I guess I'm the only one who wants an Archer issue. Guess that ain't gonna to happen.
Not by a long chalk. I recently wrote to IDW about that too. But then I write loads of letters in a year and mail them across the Atlantic, whether it be Simon & Schuster, CBS Studios, Paramount Pictures... so I forget specifics. Other than I want ENT back in whatever form some uber fan/executive (mostly used to catering to his own taste) deems cost effective.

Personally I live for the day that I'm proven right and a new piece of ENT merchandise sells beyond all expectations and there's rather a lot of egg on some cynic's face.

Not by a long chalk.
That's an interesting expression. I've heard "not by a long shot," which is comprehensible to me, but "a long chalk" is unfamiliar and puzzling. What's its origin?
To be honest, I've used it in conversation before but never given it much thought. So you're adding to my education here! :techman:

Pretty much as I imagined... It's British and competition based. Before reading that, I always assumed the chalk was to keep score.

Has there ever been a comic/graphic novel or novel devoted entirely to Captain Garrett, and the Enterprise-C?

The novel The Lost Era: Well of Souls by Ilsa J. Bick and the story "Hour of Fire" in Enterprise Logs by Bob Greenberger both fit the bill. I can't recall any comics in which Garrett or the E-C appeared at all, let alone as the exclusive focus.

Looking forward to the series. I supported a Sulu and the Excelsior TV series years ago, and I'm hopeful of good stories from IDW.

Other captains? Depends on the story.

Garrett appears throughout Star Trek: The Last Generation, as Sulu's XO on the Excelsior.

Sweet... I'll check those out... I always thought the 1701-C stuff would make good stories.

Just so everyone who hasn't read it realizes: The Rachel Garrett that appears in The Last Generation is not the captain of the Enterprise-C. She is Hikaru Sulu's first officer on the original Excelsior. No scenes occur on the E-C. Just on Excelsior.
