Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Problem

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

Also, feminine hygiene. For a few days a month, many women are in fact NOT moody and irrational, but are perfectly correct in temperment. However, no one can help a uterus shedding its endometrial lining with all its bloody goodness.

Point being - when they run out of tampons and maxipads, what then? Not toilet paper, apparently!

So then, are we going to assume Ancient toilets can cleanse one's ass, therefore helping them deal with the lack of toilet paper?
Why not the Japanese have done it:bolian:

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

I bring up the fact that none of the male cast have beards yet (it's been three weeks per according to the most recent episode) in every thread, but I was already beat on that one here.

That fancy ipod music station, though. And aren't those things usually powered from an outlet, not batteries?

No, they have internal batteries recharged through the USB port. Since the team figured out how to fiddle that Ancient wireless recharger to handle all the other batteries they brought with them, I don't see a problem with it working on the iPod too.

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

I'm not talking about the ipod, I'm talking about Rush's base station with the speakers. I could have made that clearer. My bad.

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

Oh. Well never mind, then.

...He has a base station with speakers?

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

Yeah, he was listening to his ipod on it at the end of Light, when he was sure the Destiny was about to bite the big one. At least, I think it was him and I think it was that episode. It's definitely made an appearance on the ship, though. Somebody whose been paying closer attention can confirm.

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

Most of the stuff mentioned one can really do without.

Makeup, deodorants, Hair dye???

Essential would by hygiene products and i mean toilet paper, soap/showering gel (if the ancient showers need something like that) and dental hygiene.

After that.. washing powder. I know how my clothes smell after a days of hard work. Imagine their uniforms/clothes after several weeks.. no amount of showering will be able to mask that smell.

All this is essential.. everything else just civilization junk one could do without.

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

They're things that one could do without, but obviously the actors are not going without. ;) I don't think the OP (or anyone else) meant otherwise.

Even that is technically something they can do without. Humanity went by without for century without problems and the smell is something you get use too when you're living in it all the time. But that was the question, what wil make them uncomfortable, not jeopardize their existence.

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

That's right - I'm not talking about stuff they DON'T need, I'm talking about stuff that they will LOOK like they have, but likely won't speak of.

Next up: Dental stuff. Many of us can get away without flossing regularly, but what about tooth paste? Presumably once they get to some planet with compatible plant life, calcium carbonate (baking soda, which they also need for the atmosphere scrubbers) and water they can MAKE some, but I highly doubt it would merit an episode about it. As it stands, I highly doubt they magically brought enough tooth brushes for everyone, so I'm sure they're sharing.

Do you really want to see that on tv? I don't. I have enough imagination. I'd rather see the actors ... moderately clean. I can do with some scruffyness and hair in a ponytail rather than some complicated knot done by the studio's hairdresser. But, I really don't want to see a full beard and discolored pants, and since we can't smell through the tv, I'm sure the others on the set would prefer they all shower.

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

I think in the near future we will begin to see bigger time jumps between episodes and hear about planet-stops that we don't actually see, explaining some of the replenishment of supplies or the retrieving of raw material. SG-1 made it clear very early on in their first season (Emancipation) that there were trips through the gate (implied quite a number) that we never saw. Odds are that SGU will use offscreen planet stops to cover the bits that are necessities, but are too boring to make us watch (like make-your-own-toothpaste).

Either that, or at some point we're going to find some tech equivalent to the Asgard core that can replicate matter (the quick get-around of this whole issue specially for Unending). I hope that's not soon, if ever, though.

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

2. She has enough power to listen / Has a way to recharge it?

Because that seems pretty odd to me.

I take it you missed the scene with the recharging plate then. All battery powered stuff they brought with them can now be recharged thanks to that magic piece of tech.

You can actually buy "magic" wireless recharging plates now for things like cellphones, PDAs, etc... so it's not that far-fetched. I'm sure there's some built in automatic voltage regulator built into the ancient tech.

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

Nothing too fancy, though, since they mentioned that the plate would happily keep charging their batteries indefinitely, so they'd have to be careful to take things off before they got fried.

But, then they couldn't bitch about how boring the episode is.

See, it's a win-win for them. They get to bitch cuz "it's not real enough" or they get to bitch cuz it's boring.

Some people are just going to bitch because they're miserable people and have miserable lives.

Your post was both boring and insufficiently detailed.

They are saving that for season 2:

"Toothpaste" - Dr. Rush has bad breath and Eli's gums are starting to bleed. TJ and Scot have only 12 hours to find a solution on a dangerous world. Meanwhile Col. Young wonders what the hell Telford has been doing with his electric toothbrush.

Re: Trivial Stuff They Don't Have On the Destiny Which Would Be A Prob

Season 3: "Orthodontics" - Chloe's teeth are growing at a strange angle, and Scott's going off her. Orthodontic treatment is the only option and specialists are brought aboard via the two-way transport device discovered in the season 1 finale.
