The College Football Thread

Well, it didn't snow during the game. It rained. Snow would have been better - I don't think there's anything worse than 35F and raining.

My Dad wasn't watching the Purdue-OSU game because he assumed it would be a blowout. I had to call him and tell him to watch.

Bloody hell. Huskers went totally down the crapper against Texas Tech. Our offense sucks, it has absolutely no identity. :(

I never for a moment thought Nebraska was for real this season.

On the other hand, I was pretty high on Auburn.

One outta two ain't bad.:guffaw:

Oregon plays Washington this weekend, one of our two annual rivalry games (the other being the Civil War game against Oregon State). Frankly, I'm a little nervous. The quarterback situation is still unresolved and, as good as Oregon's defense has been this year, Jake Locker is the better than any other QB the Ducks have faced so far. Plus it's a home game for the Huskies, where they upset USC earlier this season.

Without USC's starting QB or their best defensive player. If anything that game showed Pete is a genius for starting Barkley over that hack Corp.

In any event, Oregon should not have much trouble with Washington. If USC takes care of business against OSU, we'll have a helluva match-up on Halloween night.

:techman:

We'll be starting our second string QB (as of now), have lost both starting CBs for the season and our best safety hasn't played in over a month.

Still, I hope you're right.

I hope so too. We need a quality win!

That drives me crazy. USC only has two optional games a year. We had one good one (OSU) and one gimme (SJSU). The rest there's nothing we can do about. Cal completely fell apart.

The Pac 10 can be toughter than people give it credit for. The conference was 5-0 in bowl games last year, isn't that right?

I guess we need to start scheduling LSU or Florida as well.

Ohio State lost to Purdue? :wtf:
I was there and it was sweet. My wife's co-worker played for Purdue (and later for the Philadelphia Eagles) and he and I and a bunch of other guy's took a chartered bus to the game. It was awesome. After the game the town went crazy and not a sober soul was in sight.

The PAC-10 IS tougher than people give it credit for. At least we all play every team in the conference. Maybe some of those schools back east should stop scheduling schools like Charleston State, Delaware State, Alabama A&M, Akron, etc. to pad their records and start scheduling some real competition.

If any Pac-10 team, with the exception of USC, played an SEC slate, they'd likely soon be scheduling The School of the Blind out of conference, too, just to get a freakin' respite.

There is the SEC, and there is every other conference. That's just reality.

I was at a football game today, JSU and Eastern Illinois, saw the EIU team do an onside kick in the first half and catch the ball after going five yards (it has to be at least ten). They got possession. Somebody I was with actually got the line judge's attention and chewed him out. The guy just shrugged his shoulders.

Terrible call though.

Hey, I didn't know the officiating crew from the Florida/Arkansas game had been taken off suspension.

Oregon beat Washington 43-19 today, setting up a big game against USC next week. At least we're at home this time.

Mallory ... I've got a feeling there will be more than just a few people picking the Ducks in that game. The way things have been the past few seasons and this one... it's hard to tell. What's the Oregon injury status? Trojans seem to have Barkley back.

I swear, over the past ten days or so I think the sports gods are trying to see how much stress I can take....

The weaknesses in USC's pass defense started to show in the second half against Notre Dame, and it was the same tonight against Oregon State.

Big showdown against Oregon next week. It should be great. Barkley has come up big on the road. Hopefully he's got one more in him.

FIGHT ON!!!

:techman:

Some fascinating games yesterday:

I would love to have been at the Clemson/Miami game! Vintage back-n-forth intensity, based on good football

West Virginia fans showed a tremendous amount of sportsmanship in honoring the UConn team in memory of Jasper Howard, the cornerback who was murdered last week.

Florida is lucky to have won against Miss. St. If I'm Urban Meyer, I would sit the DB (Doe) who intercepted that pass for a touchdown for a bit and tell him in no uncertain terms no celebration until AFTER YOU CROSS THE FLIPPIN GOAL LINE!!

Every member of that Alabama football team needs to by Terrence Cody a pizza for being THE difference in the game against Tennessee.

Iowa... loving the dangerous life in beating Michigan St. That would have been another crazy place to be for such a last-second win.

Terrelle Pryor needs to put the Minnesota defense on his Christmas card list, for helping him regain some confidence and footing. The Buckeyes looked decent but not great.
