Shatner set to appear in Trek XII - JJ

Frankly, I found the Shatner ending to ST11 touching in a way the entirety of the rest of the movie was not.

Yeah, well...

I wasn't looking for "touching" in the new Trek movie and wasn't interested in that. Trek has been sentimentalized near to death.

Not gonna happen. I hope, anyway.

Not as Kirk at any age or from any universe I hope.

I wouldn't mind hearing his voice in it....but not to sound rude but the way Shatner looks now is not how I picture Kirk ending up looking when he's older.

That's part of it for me: one way or another I hope obesity will be unusual by then.

Anyway, I would prefer it if we were done with cameos and torch passings. There are more than enough characters in the new crew that should get the screen time.

QFT. Get on with telling the reboot story.

I wouldn't mind Shatner just playing another character, Kirk's uncle or someone else. I dunno if they really need another "Prime' character coming over. Shatner doesn't look like a Starfleet captain, retired or otherwise anymore. He's gotten too pudgy over the years. He works as Denny Crane but not as James T Kirk. Heck, I think in some ways he's best when he's playing kind of parody characters. When he's allowed to be over the top and just kinda fun. Hell, I could see him playing a nuTrek Harry Mudd! Something that will let him be as over the top as he wants and it won't hurt the character.

So long as he's not playing Kirk (and so long as the part is a cameo, concentrate on the new crew) I'd be happy enough.

He's be perfect to play one of the grandfathers either Tiberius or Jim

That could work very well, yes ,especially if he got a bit fitter to deal with the filming. :)

Watch Shatner get pissed off about not getting offered enough money and tell J.J. to go fuck himself. Shatner has crafted an iconic and legendary pop culture hero/character but the actor himself can be a giant horse's ass and egomaniac. He could get offered Jim Carrey bucks and say no because it would fall $1 million short.

no offense, but he doesn't exactly look "normal," certainly not like a normal eighty-year old. he can also be rather ham-fisted.

i'm sure he'd pull off the kirk role with aplomb, but i don't think he'd want a cameo. and barring any more time travel/alternate universe/mind meld bullshit, i wonder why anyone would want to shoehorn him into a new star trek when nimoy already handed over the reins quite capably. besides, kirk already had his final moment in the sun in generations, and as dissatisfied as many are with his death, it gave a certain finality and resolution to his life.

with respect to shatner's kirk, why not leave well enough alone and let these new actors stand on their own two feet?

personally i wish only that shatner could have kept his ego in check when this film came out and avoided the appearance of discontent. it was unbecoming of him.

I suppose Shatner could always play Kirk's grandpa Tiberius...that would be poetic justice of a sorts because on ENTERPRISE Shatner was originally going to play Mirror Universe emperor Tiberius.

As I posted in the future of Trek

"I think its a GREAT idea. Than my prediction of the movies failing after one or two more will come true.:guffaw::guffaw: NuTrek can die an early death. It probably will without Shatner shoehorned in, but this would probably be a big nail in an earlier coffin.:devil::devil::devil: "

Heh heh

I think he should be emperor of something. He could be a Harkonnen.

But that would do nothing to bring Kirk back. Shatner needs to play Kirk and only Kirk..whatever time period is fine but he needs to be brought back respectfully and die the same way. But he and Spock could retire together.

They could bring him in with the Guardian of Forever. Chris Pine has to jump forward in time to save Shat from falling off that cliff. CGI enhanced Shat and Stewart appear. Then Shat and Pine return to the alternate universe where they team up to fight Klingons, crack jokes, and complain about rules and regulations. A sci-fi Sanford and Son, if you will.

Or bring him back the way Shatner's Star Trek book, The Return...the Borg and Romulans get together to bring him back to defeat StarFleet....

Or he could have amnesia from being in the Nexus and he could think he is Admiral Danny Crane, with the same brain disease that Sarek died of.

Kate Mulgrew? Ha! Only Avery Brooks coming back will save Star Trek now!

I beg to differ, only Jeri Ryan can save it.

Kirk Only, you're new here, but please allow me to direct your attention to the section of the FAQ concerning spamming, which reads, in part:

Do not post more than twice in a row in the same thread. If you need to answer more than one person in the thread, please use the [Multi-]quote function.
You posted four times in a row, all within the space of a few minutes. That's considered spamming, and is discouraged under the board rules.

What would have been better, if you replied to one post and then found another (and another and another) to which you wished to respond, is to have edited that first post, adding your subsequent replies to it by copy/pasting.

You're terribly amused by imagining that you might turn out to be right one day.

Whatever gets you through the night, I guess. :guffaw:
Don't hurt their feelings, Dennis. After being wrong so many times about this movie, all they have left is hoping the new franchise won't last.:rommie:

There is no reason to cast Shatner in a Star Trek movie unless he is playing Kirk. I have no interest in seeing him play his father, grandfather, brother, sister or mother. It's Kirk or he should just go onto his next Priceline commercial.

Shatner should play a Police Squad-style janitor guy on the lower decks who knows everything.

Everytime a problem comes up, PineKirk should go and get ShatKirk to polish his phaser while slipping him Fed credits for answers to the story.
