Shatner set to appear in Trek XII - JJ

Hmm, I wonder how Shatner would fit in the sequel? I wouldn't mind seeing him in the sequel if there is away, but how? Kirk died in Genartions, that's why I wonder how they would fit Kirk Prime into the film, unless it was like a flashback. Who knows for sure, we just have to wait and see.

Well, in this new timeline, Kirk may have not died on Veridian III. Maybe in this movie he goes back in time in a time machine powered by a flux capacitor, accidentally has his mom (Jennifer Morrison) fall in love with him, threatening his own existence, and that of his brother George/Sam/Johnny. The only way to get back to the fut....his own time is to steer his time ship so the hook that is now attached to the warp engine gets hit with the lightning storm in space while he hits 88,000 miles per second. The same lightning storm in space that brings Nero back to kill his father.

As much as I love Bill, I really would rather he wasn't in the next film. What is the point of rebooting a franchise if you're going to keep referencing back to it anyway? Nimoy's presence in the first one was a passing-the-torch thing, but let this new crew out on their own now and have their own adventures.

I think he should be Tiberius Kirk, Jim's grandpa. Makes perfect sense. And that way they could change Shatner's makeup a little so he doesnt HAVE to look exactly like the classic Captain/Admiral Kirk of the old timeline and he can still be a major secondary/supporting character in the new movie.

Well, as RTD's Doctor Who has shown, it is entirely possible to maintain a bold new reinvention of a major franchise while embracing the fanwank. I'd be up for a return of The Shat.

I have no doubt that he could be inserted into the story in an organic way if the writers chose to do so.

Hollywood director JJ Abrams appears set to beam William Shatner up to the Star Trek sequel.
Abrams suffered plenty of criticism from Star Trek fans when he opted not to cast Shatner, the original Captain James T Kirk of the USS Enterprise, in this year's big screen update of the iconic sci-fi film and TV series.
Abrams did cast the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy.
Star Trek was one of the most successful films of 2009, earning almost US$400 million (NZ$542.81m) at the worldwide box office, and with a sequel set for release in theatres in 2011, Abrams confirmed Shatner may be offered a role.
"I would love to work with him," Abrams told reporters in Los Angeles at a press conference to promote the release of the Star Trek DVD.
"We speak. We actually have a lunch date planned."
The success of Abrams' Star Trek and the welcome Pine, Quinto, Pegg and other new actors received from Trekkies will make it easier to introduce Shatner into the sequel, Abrams said.
"In terms of moving forward, I am open to anything," Abrams added.
"I feel like the first movie did some of the heavy lifting that needed to be done in order to free us to continue going forward. Maybe there's less of a burden and there's going to be more opportunity to work with him (Shatner)."
Mr. Shatner will be appearing in ST XII, but in a parallel universe.

"I think its a GREAT idea. Than my prediction of the movies failing after one or two more will come true.:guffaw::guffaw: NuTrek can die an early death.

You're terribly amused by imagining that you might turn out to be right one day.

Whatever gets you through the night, I guess. :guffaw:
Don't hurt their feelings, Dennis. After being wrong so many times about this movie, all they have left is hoping the new franchise won't last.:rommie:

Yup it gets me through the night alright.

Your right I was wrong about the movie. I thought it was going to actually be good. I gave it a chance and it failed for me. It had so many of the same problems that so many people complained about with Nemesis but gave this one a pass. Its just a forced film and it uses an accidentally created timeline to change the characters, and continuity. Would have been much happier with a real reboot(or a film that adhered to written continuity and updated effects/sets) instead of one shoehorned into original Trek. It was just plain....stupid and sophmore. I glad you guys liked it. I didnt. But yeah I hope it sinks after a couple more films. I really dont want NuT to continue. Oh and my feeling are not hurt. Why would you think that????

That's part of it for me: one way or another I hope obesity will be unusual by then.
Scotty.

I know: I overlook it as artistic license, but I'd prefer it if I didn't have to.

But that would do nothing to bring Kirk back.

To my understanding there was no mention of bringing prime Kirk back - just of Shatner and although one tends to think of Kirk in that context I think Shatner's now too old to play Kirk in prime universe canon, since we know when Kirk died. Spock was still alive so they could age him but IMO it would be clumsy trying to do it with prime universe Kirk.

Kirk Only, [sinp]

What would have been better, if you replied to one post and then found another (and another and another) to which you wished to respond, is to have edited that first post, adding your subsequent replies to it by copy/pasting.

Or, if you're part way through a thread, and want to reply to something, click the 'multiquote' button. As you read the thread, if you come across anything else you want to reply to, click the multiquote button again.

Then at the end click the reply button and all the posts you wanted to reply to will be there in one post. This works for one too, so nothing is lost.

(also new here, but I have encountered the multiquote button before. :) )

I agree, but the interview quoted sounded like JJ was seriously considering it, so herethe question has become not if but how...

If Shatner wants to appear in the next Trek movie, he should show some initiative and lose some weight, he has plenty of time. I sure don't want to see a shuttlecraft sized Kirk waddling on the screen, huffing and puffing.

I suppose he could take the easy way out and have them CGI about 50 pounds off of him.

I dont have a problem with Shatner being in the next movie, but at the same time, i dont see why he should be in the next movie.

Nimoys part was great, it had a meaning to it and as said, was a passing of the torch moment that was well suited written and played. And to have Shatner in there just for the sake of having Shatner in there would be shit beyond belief.

Yeah there are ways and means of doing it, but it will feel forced and just shoe-horned in to fill a few minutes.

Unless they do it the easy way and have, as said, a future echo from the current altered reality as the older Kirk contacts his younger self. But thats just mad and so cliche.

So, what i propose is this:
Young Kirk is watching a live feed of a show like 'You are what you eat' (or whatever American equivelant you have) and starts day-dreaming. He dreams of eating a space-burger here and a space-Dog there, a Space-Beer with each meal everyday and gradually he balloons and balloons until he hits his 70s and looks like the Fat-Shat and realises hes the exact size of Belgium.

He quickly jerks awake in his chair on the bridge, knocking his coffee on the floor. His yeoman offers him a SpaceBurger, Kirk just scowls at her and then asks for a Space-Salad instead.

I like the idea of having Jim Kirk's grandfather's in the movie - before meeting Pike and prime-Spock I think the young Kirk would have refused to listen to anyone speak of his father, but now he's going to be interested again and he's going to want to hear the stories of George.

But yeah I hope it sinks after a couple more films. I really dont want NuT to continue.

You would have been better off leaving it the way you did before you ruined some of your credibility with such a selfish comment. So you want others to be deprived of a Star Trek they enjoyed and want the franchise to suffer more failures?

Hmm.

Your [sic] right I was wrong about the movie.

So you won't feel too uncomfortable about your current predictions failing as well.

On topic, I agree with VOODOO that there's no point in Shatner doing Trek again unless he's going to play Kirk. Anything else would satisfy very few people, probably mainly Boston Legal fans. ;)
