I noticed a thread on Trekweb about Uniforms for Trek 12 and thought we should have a discussion about it. That thread mentions ST 2-6 uniforms and if fans think the JJverse uniforms should stay.

    We've touched on it here
this Summer in these two threads How many scenes will Pine wear the gold uniform in the next movie?

    and
    Uniform Differences

I think these tighter fitting JJverse uniforms will be around for the next 2 films. What happens in the next Trek TV series though is the real question.

When we see Admirals back at Starfleet HQ in the next 2 films what will they be wearing is more interesting to me.

What I would like to see is minor uniform changes and/or some nice variant uniforms. For a third movie....if there will be one...I´d like to see a cross of the TWOL style uniforms and the 09 ones...hard to explain. I´ll try to do a GIMP.

I'd rather they just stick with the current revamp of the TOS uniforms. Nothing in the TOS-based films ever came close to being as nice.

They'll want Pine in gold as little as possible. I reckon we'll see a variant of the green wraparound thing that Shatner often sported.

Gold is an awfully unflattering color for most complexions (as is green). That's the main reason Theiss switched the colors on TNG, though he allowed in at least one interview that continuity with the TWOK uniforms might have been a consideration as well.

For TNG, Theiss brought in the developer of the "Color Me Beautiful" color analysis system that was popular in the 1980s to help him choose the fabric shades - he wanted to use the red/green-gold/blue system from TOS, but knew that the exact same shades were not desirable.

I like the current TOS style uniforms with the delta pattern their using. Pine might occasionally sport the green wraparound but I would prefer if they waited until the third film to do that. If they do a fourth film (hopefully XII and XIII are good enough) they might do something new, a step towards a TNG style uniform would be nice I really liked those.

Well, I think Pine should be in a cadet uniform, as that part of the movie where they made him a captain less than 3 days out of the academy is obviously a dream sequence.

    I like the new unis.

Some variants on the shipboard uniform would be nice I guess - give Doc McCoy his short sleeves and Kirk his green thingy, or whatever.

Maybe some cool jackets for away missions and something to set the security guards apart so that they don't look exactly like the engineers.

And gloves so his hands don't get chafed when he's doing more ledge-hanging.

They should bring in a platoon of marines (or MACOS or whatever they're called) and give them the same style uniforms. However the color should be black. :techman:

as far as Star Trek XII uniforms, if we see Klingons in Trek XII we may see more of this style of uniform:

from the Deleted scene of the Klingon prison.

I can't understand why anyone would want to change them. Okay the starfleet chevron embedded in them is maybe a little over the top, but otherwise they are a great tribute to TOS uniforms, and better than anything seen in the other movies.

I like the tunic-over-black-undershirt style, tho I do hope that we see Uhura in one of the longsleeved tunics and trousers costumes eventually, since there were loads of women (particularly in Engineering and on the Bridge) wearing them, if for no other reason than practicality and someplace to put her rank bars! I've no idea where ranks are meant to be displayed on the cap sleeve uniforms...

(If they do keep her in the minidress, at least hopefully she'll wear the longsleeved option, to keep with the iconic image of Nichelle's costume in TOS)

One thing I really did like is that it's obvious from the way the background artists and day players were costumed that the minidresses are not the only female uniform option, and therefore it's up to the individual which uniform she wears (as opposed to TOS after the two pilots, where it looked like the minidress was compulsory).

But one thing I love most about the new uniforms (which I only noticed when I saw the high-res Style Guide pics)?

    The trousers have POCKETS.

We may evolve past the need for war, poverty, or money, but I find it hard to believe we'd ever evolve past the need for a place to put our hands and/or keys.

TROUSER POCKETS! It's the way of the FUTURE!
