New Series Logo to be unveiled on Oct 6

Widescreen version that I suspect will be the one used on the actual TV show credits.

I didn't like it the other way, but this could grow on me. I was actually kinda hoping for a more 70s/early 80s logo.

If you take away the TARDIS motif, which I quite like, then the rest of it screams, as someone on Gallifrey Base pointed out, "syndicated '90s SF series" (you could add cheap too I think) or "90's SF Children's BBC series".

It just looks like someone just used one of those weird fonts that come with Microsoft Windows and Office. It looks like the sort of logo the series would have had in the early/mid 1990's had it not been canceled in 1989, not really suitable for one of the BBC's flasgship series in 2010.

At least the current version is slightly brash, colourful and dynamic, which is what the series is at present.

Excellent.

I love it, better even than i loved the new and fresh 2005 logo.

It has the classic logo, the modernised 70s and 80s logos all in one, and it looks sparkling new with the Tardis inspired shorthand logo.

I love it, im working on an avatar at the mo.:techman:

So the TARDIS is now transformed into a Decepticon or something?

:p

Like the new logo. :) Sure, it follows (as I feared) the whole "use the initials as a logo symbol" trend which was adopted by Newsround and the like in the last 10 years or so, and which now seems somewhat tacky. [Look who's talking - someone]

But I still like it. :bolian:

According to a blog post at the Canadian Doctor Who Information Network website, the DW/Tardis part is NOT part of the TV logo, but is apparently the icon being introduced for use on books, etc.

I don't know if this is correct or not, having not had a chance to see the video yet being in Canada. Zap2It, the Los Angeles Times entertainment blog, has a story about it with a link to BBC America's version of the video. But once again, it's geolocked so it's useless outside the US.

"World Wide Web". Hah - what a joke.

Anyway, if DWIN is correct, then that means they truly are going retro with the logo.

Anyone want to take a stab at what font that is? (if its not completely custom)

It looks familiar, like it's something from Photoshop. I thought it was Tandelle at first. I've been messing around with it, but it isn't that.

Are we seriously going to talk about fonts now? if so I'm gonna run out of suggestions pretty quick, I mean I know the basics Comic Sans, Times New Roman, Hellvetica Bold.
