Question For Women RE: Facial Hair

I shaved it all off, fully intending to grow it back mind you. And my girlfriend had a fit. She went on for two weeks about how it was like being with a stranger, and how it would be just like if she shaved her head

I have a question of my own, for the ladies...how do you feel about *bald* guys? I have been smooth of head for many years now. I much prefer it that way. I don't ever plan on growing hair ever again (I shave my head every morning in the shower). I would hope that this isn't considered unattractive...

Yeah, I'm at that stage where this is the only option.

My experience is that the ratio between women who prefer guys with a full head of hair and those who prefer bald is about 1897897897867865656567454356356349080980 to 1.

I do like stubble, it creates some nice friction against skin. I don't really care, full beard/ stache as long as he's happy.

And I've actually thought of doing the longer stubble thing att some point when I lost a bit of weight. At the moment it doesn't make me look sexy, just lazy.

I keep a clean shave. Don't really care what anyone else thinks about what I do with my facial hair.

I only shave every few days and it grows fast, so I rock stuble for a few days in-between.

This is what I do. I generally shave once every other day as my skin gets irritated otherwise, so I get a bit of the stubble look going. Lately, though, I've gone back to the daily shaving routine.

I also don't really give a crap what other people--especially women--think about it. They can deal.

I've never dated a guy who had facial hair beyond being too lazy to shave. In terms of the effect it has when a guy shaves his beard after you get used to it, my dad shaved off his beard, which he had had my entire life, a couple of years ago. I still feel slightly uncomfortable seeing his chin and kind of do a double-take every time I see him...

well I usually prefer clean shaven, yet sometimes I dont mind a scruffy(though short) mustache or beard. I think it looked good on Sharlto Copley & the guy who plays Sam from True Blood.

however in my case if I were to ever be in a relationship the point would be moot b/c, thanks to my crappy genes, I have long thick hair on my arms, so if the guy suddenly decided he wanted a grizzly adams beard I would have no choice but to bite my lip & accept it b/c he'd probably demand that I shave or wax my arms.

Depending on the specific look desired, it can take as much work (or perhaps even more) to maintain a beard/goatee as it would to shave. I have to keep trimming mine back so it doesn't grow out too long, and also to shave around it because it is after all a goatee.

Definitely takes more work to shave my whole head than it would to wash hair with shampoo. Fortunately I very rarely cut myself shaving. (On the head, that REALLY fraking *hurts*...)

You always have a choice. Whatever you do with your arms is up to you. Anybody worth a damn wouldn't put demands on you like that. And there are people out there who will not complain about what you decide to do...if they really love you they will respect your choice of grooming.

I can honestly say I know no guys who bitch about girls arm hair. I guess they're out there, but really, who cares.

Then again, I'm Italian, and I've gone out with plenty of Italian and Greek girls so obviously it doesn't phase me.

Recently this one lady, complete stranger, sitting next to me waiting for the train, after asking me for the time, just out of the blue tells me I should consider getting electrolisis on my arms, that one of her female relatives did it & I would look so much nicer if I did it too.

Im really not sure about guys but it must bother them too b/c if not, why is there so much emphasis on women being hairless(except for on the head, eyebrows & private parts)?

I tried growing one once... it, uh, didn't take. It comes in okay on the sides and under the chin/jaw, but it's way too sparse and patchy on my cheeks; same with the moustache.

I've never really thought about women's preferences with regard to facial hair -- I personally think I look better without it, and I guess I just have to hope that the ladies agree!

As you asked I'm not in favour of facial hair of any description. But it is entirely up to you.

So how important is this? Would you take her side that it's a big change to just spring on her, or my side that she is overreacting? How important is it for your guy to not drastically change his look without a consult first? And most importantly would it effect how, ahem, close you want to be with him?

It's pretty significant, but it's obviously something that is completely your decision in the end. I'd enjoy being consulted but I don't find such a thing necessary. If I decided to go get all my hair cut off, that's my decision and my husband doesn't really have much say in it, in the end.

So yeah, consult would be nice (and even polite). Maybe even just a heads up about what you're going to do, even if it's not open for discussion. But she'll get over it as it's not really that big a deal, in the end.

It can be very, very attractive and distractive. I recently experienced this whilst buying a new mobile for son and sitting for half an hour with the salesman going through details... When me, son and man left the shop, son merrily texting away due to 'unlimited texts', man going through figures and me thinking I remember nothing after he sat down opposite me and bent his beautiful, smooth, shiney, chocolate coloured head towards me

I'll never do a full-on beard just because it would require way too much maintenance. My beardline goes very high up my cheeks and I don't like that.

How bloody rude! Damn, that is one situation when you really need a smartarsed reply like... (I'll get back to you on that)

I do admit to waxing my legs though ~ but because I want to, not though any other pressure.
(Actually my man does it for me ~ he enjoys inflicting pain on me and I chicken out of the rippin)

I think she's making too big a deal out of it. Adults consider the opinions of important people in their lives but ultimately make their own decisions regarding their appearance. How would she feel if you fussed like that over a change in her hair style or color?

My now-ex ("ex" for reasons unrelated to this incident) came home from work one day, clean-shaven for the first time in over 10 years. I hadn't even known he had a hair appointment, no less that he was considering getting rid of the mustache and long beard. I was shocked, disappointed and maybe pissed for a couple days, but, hey, it was his face, not mine. I survived, and I certainly did not complain after the first day.
