paul simpson on star trek magazine

That would be a nightmare with 726 episodes and 10 films. .
11!! My reference to 10 was regarding the period before the JJ movie...
Don't worry. You didn't make such a mistake.

For me, it's a hard habit to break though. Of course there are 11... for those accustomed to thinking multiverse (like Spock or Q). I've clearly not made that leap in scientific thinking quite yet.

Maybe after CBS or Paramount has provided new video evidence that the Prime Universe continues to co-exist alongside JJ Abrams' altered one... ;)

That has nothing to do with the question of how many Star Trek motion pictures exist in the real world. There are eleven of those, period. You can quibble over how you define the fictional realities, but if you're denying that the eleventh film exists in the real reality, the one where we live, then you're taking denial way too far.

Well obviously. I even kept my cinema ticket in case I ever need to prove the lengths to which a fan will go to support their first love.

It's now at the centre of my dartboard, where after several near misses, I have it securely pinned down!

Trekmovie has all the latest on the new issue...

When is this one due here in Britain?

This will be the same info as I posted here some time back (I know - I wrote both of them!!)... I believe the official street date for the UK is 9th October, but it's printed on the next issue page of 148.

To my pleasant surprise, issue 150 is only going to be 8 days behind the States - the holiday period works in our favour for once, rather than slowing things down.

We are working on getting them here as fast as is economically possible, and actively discouraging people from posting complete articles online as soon as they read them (actively discouraging is a polite euphemism...)

Paul

I've not made the complaint this time, I'm too busy writing a novel and trying to get my visa for the US so I can be with my fiancée (Do Andorians have fiancéees and fiancéeees?).

Paul, have you read the CSI magazine? They did a season by season breakdown of the three shows across three issues, highlighting which episode was the best, the worst, which character was best/worst, including interviews with the villain-of-the-season etc. I can send them to you if you want to have a look. I think something like that could be done in the STM, across five issues. CSI has ten seasons and they managed to cover it all in one issue along with all the regular features, so there's no reason why something like that can't be done in STM since three of the five only had 7 seasons.

I have seen CSI Mag - Kate Lloyd did a terrific job on it.

Let's just say that the 45th anniversary plans incorporate something not dissimilar to what you're suggesting.... Seems a long way off but just to give you an idea, I'm having to give a rough plan for issues up to July next year in the next couple of weeks...

Video killed the radio star. And the internet killed the Fan mag.

I used to buy Star Trek mag out of my obsession for the show. It never made me want to re read it. It just didn't give me anything new or interesting. When I read the top 20 sexiest women/baddest aliens/best captains etc it's always biased by the journalist. The magazine just seems to be an excuse to print already seen pictures and create a piece of literature around it.

I only ever buy the mag if I'm going on a train journey and I see it on sale at the station. I usually have to buy other stuff to read as the magazine is read from cover to cover very quickly. In 1990 there was a british produced TNG magazine that was far superior even though it was printed on inferior paper lol. The thing is that Trek was all so new for a whole generation. Trek is tired and worn out as a TV series. The new movie has given us new material and thats one occasion that I bought Star Trek magazine.

That old magazine had current interviews and synposes for episodes, Okudagrams and the odd free gift such as a sew on communicator badge plus a comic strip ( I later learned was one already published as a comic). Theres nothing to report on Star Trek anymore apart the new movies, but I can read on the internet anything I want to know about that.

I do admire the Star Trek magazine to keep going and there must be a market for it still. I just don't get anything out of reading it since Trek finished on TV sadly.

I've been enjoying the current ST mag more than I enjoyed its predecessors in a long time. As for the absence of new Trek... I started buying Doctor Who Magazine about halfway between the McGann movie and the new series, during a long drought of TV Who, and the magazine never failed to keep me interested. Star Trek's recent drought was minor compared to Who's, and it wasn't a bad thing for the magazine -- for example, the lack of filmed Trek meant more emphasis on the books, which is a good thing.

The magazines may not be able to compete with the Internet as a source of news tidbits. But that's not the only thing the magazines have done, and I don't expect them to go away any time soon.

Just to answer those points: a) we regularly print new images from the archives that haven't seen print before. Virtually all of the main photos in the upcoming Villains special are newly found and digitised pics.
b) The internet may well have some material on the new movie - but there are many thousands of people who prefer it in printed form they can go back to - and see illustrations at a proper size
c) What would make you come back?

The magazines may not be able to compete with the Internet as a source of news tidbits. But that's not the only thing the magazines have done, and I don't expect them to go away any time soon.

We don't try now - except where, as does still happen occasionally, we get exclusives that are held back by other people until after the mag hits the shelves. But the news content was only ever, at most 6 pages out of 68 or 100...

I think anyone who watches television would know that STAR TREK will eventually be back.

I don't think there is a more successful filmed franchise in history.

Star Trek will be on TV again (or whatever the child of TV and NET will be called). Anybody want to lay odds?
