Gaming frustration

^ Another thing about COD WAW...

The whoring of the invisable line in the one from last level of the russians where you have to advance up to that parliment type building (the one you plant the flag on). You have to get to the sandbags at top of steps and just stay there fighting off spawning enemies till the game decides enough time has passed.
That's the Reichstag.

tried to forgot about Call of Duty: World at War grenade spamming, even on normal it was a pain at time. Had no interest in even playing on veteran

NFS most wanted/undercover: elastic band AI on the no 1 on the list, made him crash his car into a wall and then about 15 seconds later, he had caught up when I had been going flat out. The police AI cheats, you can have the best car and the police SUV can keep up with you

Quite a lot of frustration was involved in playing Clear Sky. Probably most annoying was how poorly the faction wars worked - or didn't, to be more accurate. Your own faction's complete inability to hold strategic points made the whole process very irritating. Also the linearity of the last few maps was disappointing. And it all started off so nicely in the swamps...

The Mario Kart series, while a ton of fun, also suffers greatly from the rubberband effect, which is completely intentional. They want anyone to be able to pick up the game and be competitive with longtime players. No one's going to get too far ahead because you'll get hit by a shell, then get struck by lightning, then get run off the road by the cart behind you, then get hit by another shell and you go from first to ninth in under 10 seconds. And no one's going to get too far behind either, even computer-controlled who can go faster than the game allows you to go.

Also I hate QTE (quick time events) in games, they add nothing to the game most of the time. eg in force unleashed, you are looking for the button prompt on the boss fights instead of watching the action. Also they are pointless, they are just throw in to make the game cinematic (in their view) Much as I loved playing uncharted, it just throw in some QTE where you have to press a button not to die. Res. Evil 3 did it better where it branched the story at certain points

I have worked with developers and their love QTE as it requires little effort to add these

Yeah have to agree there. I'm not a big fan of quick time events at all.

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy had the best use of QTE you will ever see and now they are returning with Heavy Rain next year :techman:

hated Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, well actually liked the problem solving bits as seen in the demo but hated all the button "bashing" and press X not to die. (also the story turned to crap) They should of kept as puzzle adventure then it would of been a classic

I know the story went downhill but thats because they were originally making a trilogy but were told to tack on a ending late into development.

Gaming frustration for me can be summed up with one word: Chocobos. Wretched creatures, whether you're breeding them or hunting for treasure with them. Absolute tedium personified, and for little-to-no reward.

The absolute worst must be on FFIX. There's one Chocobo dig spot "somewhere in the ocean". So you scour the fucking planet for days looking for this tiny little black spot in a planet's worth of ocean to get... access to a small island in the sky with a meaningless boss on it that's nails for no reason at all. Where the hell is the achievement in getting there or killing it?!

Oh. And Blitzball on FFX. Most irritating sidequest ever. If they wanted a sport in the game you can play make it a sport, not some mathematical procession. Winning a full season - or more if you want Wakka's best gear - is more tedious than random battles, and I didn't know that was even possible.

The next game in that series is supposed to be fixing that somewhat, although part of the problem is that the story has very little to do with the Duty and Freedom factions in the end. So you can't make either faction too angry.

I can't say I'm particularly hopeful that the third game will be any less full of bugs and irritations, both big and small, than the first two. Which isn't to say I'm not looking forward to it. I wouldn't find all the problems with the games quite so frustrating if I didn't like them so much.

Although if they don't fix the bloody ally pushing you from cover out into fire thing this time... :scream:

'Clear Sky' was much less buggy than the first one, at least to me. The 3rd game is supposed to come out before the end of the year, although it doesn't have an official release date. 'Clear Sky' didn't take all that long to develop.

Just a few minutes ago, for example, I was playing Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall, when I asked an NPC for the nearest fighter's guild. She said "I think there's one in Daggerfall!".

...O rlly?...

It's not like the entire damn CONTINENT is called Daggerfall!!! My irritation with NPC's stat increased by 15 points that day.

The continent is called Tamriel. The the game takes place in two adjoining provinces called Hammerfell and High Rock. Daggerfall is an influential city in High Rock.

In this case, it wasn't the NPC being silly. ;)

Conker's Bad Fur Day
Bomb Run and Lava Surfing.

Last bosses in many fighting games. Some are next to impossible.
Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive, King of Fighter series to name a few.

Trying to get a tank and healer to join your PUG in MMOs is a pain. That's why my bro and I started playing tank and healer.

Saving... *ugh* There was one game in particular that had this issue. Lufia: The Ruins of Lore. Gawd this game sucked in this area. Especially in this one part... there were NO save spots in this area (nearing a boss -- I think...), the only one was a church, that was outside of the area that I needed to be. Talk about frustrating. Not to mention that the stupid game kept on freezing in the same area, no matter what I did.

The game itself was in good shape, so it wasn't my fault in terms of things, it was just due to the programmers and their dang bugs that they forgot to fix.

Also, there was one really tough boss in Goldensun: The Lost Age. Dullahan. The toughest SOB that I've ever faced in any video game. If you don't have your team ready protection wise... he'll go and kick your behind. Taking away all of your life away in one hit with a move called 'Formina Sage'... if you have defended yourself, then this attack only takes away half of your life force.

Pretty much every game known to man has irritations, so there are too many to list. But GTA4 does come to mind in terms of being really stupid about just about everything.

I'm annoyed by any game that doesn't allow saving at any point. I'm especially amazed at how many PSP games only allow saving after long missions (Ace Combat X, for example) given that the nature of portable gaming is that you're going to be playing in short spurts.

I haven't touched a VG since early spring. They all just feel like timewasters and rat races to me now. The sentiment has been creeping in over the last 5 years. There just seems to be very little substance in them. HL2 had impressive atmosphere, but has some obnoxious hangup where I can't re-install it because of Steam not remembering my account. Oh well. Better things to do anyway.
