I'd have voted for Master & Commander if it were an option, so I went with Star Trek VI instead.

I'm glad TMP has experienced a renaissance in recent years. For so long when I was growing up it was considered a high-tech, big-budget borefest. Grey. Colorless. Humorless. A chore to watch for so many. But its now more beloved than most of the movies that came after it in the series and that's so refreshing and wonderful to see. It's always had incredible music, effects and a deep philosophical approach most other modern sci-fi films lack.
Fans, are there any of you who aren't aware of my opinions yet? After dropping in on Space's Trek film marathon over the Labour Day weekend I find TMP and even TWoK to be the only bearable films of the lot to watch. There's so much in the remaining eight films that I just barely can tolerate anymore if at all.
Whatever I think of the TOS based films the TNG ones are just wholly awful. Only GEN has some decent moments and those are because of Shatner.

I thought GEN was a colossal bore and that Shatner, while good, was wasted--much as McDowell was wasted. The only TNG movie I like is FC.
After FC, I find them difficult to rank--they all fall short in ways that are not exactly awful but bore me nevertheless.
