Beam-In Matte Shot from "Kitumba"

And as long as we're on the subject of "Kitumba," here's a little thing one of special effects guys put together--mostly just for fun. It's a clip on YouTube--a little teaser/trailer-thing.

^Thanks!

Side question after watching this clip: Is the Enterprise not getting its P:II upgrade anymore?

Hm. Well, um, yes: it's not getting a Phase II upgrade like we had toyed with. At least not in "Enemy: Starfleet," "The Child," or "Kitumba." We may yet do it, but, I think it's just, well, more trouble than it's worth.

We get bees in our bonnet about something and think something is really cool and, after a while, dynamics change and, well, we realize that we've got bigger fish to fry.

So no refit--for now. As for what the future holds, I don't even know what I'm doing for breakfast in the morning.

Good, on the non-refit :)
That model looked... less than great. ;)

Couldn't agree more. I love the TOS Enterprise and I love the movie Enterprise, but I have never really warmed to the intermediate midpoint design that was going to be used in the aborted 1970's series. It was a graceless amalgam of design ideas from the original Enterprise and what we saw in The Motion Picture... blech.

Well, it might have been graceless (although I don't think the changes were so great that there was a complete loss of grace). But I don't think it was an amalgam and it couldn't really have been "intermediate" since there was, as of then, no other motion pictue design to which the Phase II Enterprise would have been a prelude. Back when there was only the series to draw from and there was no Motion Picture yet, there was nothing to amalgamate. The Phase II Enterprise was just Matt Jefferies' updating of his original design--still designed for the small screen, and still unaffected my motion picture design aesthetics. It wasn't the middle ground; back then, it was only the next ground.

(Sort of like how people didn't call "The Great War" "World War I" until there was a second World War.)

What are the white belts they are wearing?

Those are "Weapons Belts" made out of Velcro. The phasers and communicators (and Dr. McCoy's belt-carried medical kit) attach to the weapons belts since Starfleet uniforms in TOS don't have pockets.

Of course, they're wearing the white ones instead of the regular black ones because they are wearing their fancy dress uniforms. Here's a shot of the the white Dress Weapons Belts worn in conjunction with the Dress Uniforms from TOS (from "The Savage Curtain"):

Actually, I meant Dochterman's CG-model of that Enterprise ;)

Hey, beggars can't be choosers: It's the only model of the Enterprise I had to work with. I'm the person who created that scene, and personally, I think it looks fine.

Thats really petty damn awesome. I started watching your productions just recently, as I am a huge critic of tv shows with sub standard production values. So I just assumed (and we know what that makes me). But after seeing your work, and how its grown. Just a huge thanks for all the great work.

^ Thanks for posting the link ... Kinda cool shot ... needs more lense flare ... ;)
