I still...cry

Out of nowhere last night we watched TNG's Offspring ...it is still my favorite TNG episode, and.....and...yes...I still cry at the end. Okay, I don't bawl (and if I did would I admit it here) but...man...that is what star trek, to me, is about.

It isn't about phasers or photon torpedos. Star Trek, at its best, makes you think about life and death, or other issues, and doesn't do it with a hammer on the head. This is one the episodes I really like Picard because he shows some fricking balls for once, when that Admiral wants to take Lal.

Oh well..I will file that episode away and watch again someday in the future. Now, to even out the great feelings, I will slide Shades of Gray into my DVD player and be brought back to reality!!!

Freaky. This was one i watched last night as well. Hallie Todd is so wonderful in it. When she starts to 'feel' and she is pounding on her chest, i am left breathless. Frakes does an excellent job directing it. I want to smack Admiral Haftel silly every time he opens his mouth, except of course, at the end. And i cry every time i watch it too.

When she looks up at data and says "THANK YOU FOR MY LIFE" it just...gets me. Because as shitty as her life turned out to be at the end, she proved to be more human than Haftel.

I think this was Frake's first directed episode, and it was a great job.

I like how Data adds her memory chip to his own (so to speak) and says something very similar to what people say in the real world, how, if we remember them, they havent really died. Its a beautiful episode.

When she looks up at data and says "THANK YOU FOR MY LIFE" it just...gets me.

That's the line/moment that makes me teary too. Such an amazing thing for the child to say to the parent...even if she was an 'artificial child'.

Its my favorite episode, and if i'm not mistaken, the favorite of most of the main cast.

I always found it sad how the Admiral that wanted to take Lal away was describing how fast Data's hands moved and how he wouldn't give up.

agreed...this one, The Visitor, Inner light..ect..those kinds of episodes are, for me at least, far better than the so called action episodes (some of which I do like a lot too) But those kinds of episodes stay with me longer than JUST another Borg episode and JUST another war episode...

This is one of those episodes that shows what Picard can have between his thighs when the time comes- two big brass ones. He can stand his ground when he really has to. He isn't afraid to stand up to the Admirals... such a beautiful episode...

yes, definetely one of the best, and i found myself tearing up as well.

i love the part where Lal kisses Riker, then Data comes in and says, "What are your intentions towards my daughter, Commander?" *Riker looking bewildered* "Your DAUGHTER??"

and yes, this is one episode where Picard has some spine.

I hate this ep.

No, just kidding, of course not! I think this has to be easily in my top 5 TNG episodes. Fantastic performances, well-written and directed, and like others, I love these ones with some real emotion on the time. So much of the time (esp. TNG) Trek characters weren't allowed to show real emotion (e.g. Geordi learns his mum's probably dead) but "The Offspring" and "Family" show just how great it can turn out.

An A+++ episode easily!

Back 'in the day' I had found it to be a really good episode. However, I too have recently re-watched it and wow. Now that I have two kids in high school, coupled with the loss of an uncle, cousin, and life long friend all in the last year, it really hit home. As many have said, the acting, directing, and writing are fantastic. But when mixed together, and the final product hits the screen, this was a grand slam home run.
