AVATAR Trailer is here!

And the teaser looks like the trailer for a Pixar film.

Uhhh...really??

Alright. For everyone who can't get QuickTime to load and who still want to experience the full power of this GAME CHANGING FILM-MAKING (TM), here's the Rapidshare link.

For those who think it looks cartoony and fake...

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING??

These people don't look real to you??

Well...that's because they are real. No amazing technical accomplishments there. It's the fake stuff that looks, well, fake. District 9 had more photorealistic aliens and giant mechs than this does.

No, those are computer generated people.

At least, that's what everything I've read has led me to believe. Obviously I could have been mislead (wouldn't be the first time in this industry), but I'm pretty sure they're not real people.

Anyone know for sure?

I posted this so people could have an opinion if her face looks realistic. I think it does, look at the lips and skin, if it wasn't for the bigger eyes I would say it was makeup. Looks real enough to me, even up close, that's a 1080 HD still

Yknow one huge problem with that trailer? If the story is going to be carried essentially by animated people, voice acting is absolutely crucial. Think about the way voice acting "sells" the emotional content of Toy Story, The Incredibles, Futurama, etc. Nobody says hardly nuffin in that trailer. No wonder it seems fakey fake. If there are real characters in this story, the voice actors will be the ones who make them come to life.

I know zipola about this movie except that Sam Worthington is the lead guy and I would guess the lead girl (one of the real aliens) is played by Zoe Saldana. Who else plays (voice acts) the aliens? I hope some of the impressive names in the cast will be doing the crucial work as voice actors for the aliens. Will Sigourney Weaver be an alien? Giovini Ribisi? CCH Pounder?

They're real people. This is not an all-CGI film. Nobody's ever said that.

I don't know how to convince you otherwise, but the disconnect between the CGI creatures and the real people is strong enough to make it frying-pan-to-the-head obvious to me.

ETA: Here's an interview where they say the film has 12 CGI characters. It doens't say they're all CGI, just 12 of them, and there's probably that many aliens alone at the end of the trailer. Perhaps you're gettign mixed up about the references to the film being all "3D;' they're referrign to the fact tha tthe film is a 3D film of the kind you wear the 3D glasees for, not that it's all CGI.

Ok, examine this:

The top shot is DEFINITELY a CGI person. I am convinced of that one. The bottom one I'm not sure either way. I couldn't say.

But answer this: Why would humans be CGI sometimes and real other times? If one is fake (and I'm certain on a few shots) then why not the others?

That's the question I can't answer.

Er...that's Sam Worthington in both shots. He's very much real.

Ok, I believe that some of them are real, but some of them are CGI too. I guess it made more sense to use CGI people in certain shots...dunno. There's not enough information online yet.

You can be convinced of that, but I think you're wrong; the reflection in his faceplate is digital, and I think it's frakking with the image enough to make him look fake. That's a real guy there, standing in front of a bluescreen wearing a visor that's reflecting nothing. Looks to me like the level of post-processing is convincing you the whole shot is synthetic. The same thing happened for me with the Star Wars prequels; lots of elements I thought were CGI were actually models and props processed until they looked fake as hell.

Well, if you're right then I've been reading a lot of misleading articles. As I said...not a first.
