Me, too. One of the writers made the same comment on a DVD commentary about how Pete was sympathetic thanks to Vincent's portrayal. More or less called him a sympathetic weasel. Talk about a character who was emotionally starved to death growing up. He's not so different from Don on that score, but Pete is so awkward socially I feel for him. He feels like such a fish out of water socially and professionally.

Oh yes, but in a way we don't expect. Nothing "normal" like wifey finds out and boots his ass out the door.
That's what I thought. They are international jewel thieves, or something, and will come back into Don's life. They never do anything on this show for nothing.
Well sometimes things are just done for period texture. Also showing onetime quirky personalities to contrast against the main cast. Not everything on Mad Men is about setting up future plotlines.

Or was he interrupted by the hotel fire before they could do the deed? Nice move leaving her stick pin in his luggage. Man, Don isn't ever going to be right in the head if he keeps seeing images of his dead prostitute mother saying his dick should be cut off.

Clearly Don is a guy who cares for his kids. He seems to only be married and stay married for them.
The stuff about Don's childhood was interesting. Though seemingly impossible for him to know about. I guess that someone told him this stuff and this is his imaging how it happened.
I think my favorite part was Pete and Ken being pitted against each other!

Did Jimmy Barrett do or say something to embarrass them? Or did Don breaking things off with Bobbie effect their business relationships?

Maybe, maybe not. Even after that it was in Jimmy's best interest to play nice to keep his tv show. Unless that and his knowledge of Bobbie and Don started him to spiral out of control. Which damaged his public image and made him and Sterling Cooper unattractive to Lutz.
They still have the Utz account. It just won't go to Ken because he was involved with Jimmy insulting Mrs. Utz.
Considering Don can from trash, he never would have had the oppertunities he has now if he wasn't a little shady. Nobody would give him the time of day if they knew he was the son of a whore. Draper my not be a hero but he's no villain.
BTW, who found it funny Dick Whitman(Don Draper) got his name from his mother's last words.
So, how'd he find out about all that stuff? Is it just his overactive imagination? Did Daddy tell him all that shit?

Oh I agree completely. I would not have chosen his name otherwise. Donald Draper is one of the greatest creations in television history.

Don is living the American male dream. Wife, two kids in a picket fenced in home. Top money maker at his job. Mistress on the side and nobody telling him what to do, ever. Envy of men and adored by women.
What's not to like?

I really liked the episode! I was a little disappointed to see Don hook up in the first episode... not that I thought he was going to change or anything, but it gets kind of repetitive after a while. I thought what he said to the engaged stewardess was interesting and of course very telling... about the "many more opportunities" or whatever.
The fire/Sal getting "caught" by Don was kind of predictable. I do like that it wasn't an issue for Don... what he cares about is business, and he doesn't stick his nose in other's personal lives unless he has to or is asked.

Yeah, Draper seems really happy in his envied, adored life!
Draper is not a good guy, and he leaves a lot of unhappy people around him. He does seem to have some kind of decent streak, though, and he could still become a good guy. I can sometimes root for Draper, because he has a code of sorts and will stand up for something he believes in. Campbell on the other hand is a furtive, ingratiating schemer who has no principles other than doing whatever it takes to benefit himself. I'm not a fan of Pete Campbell, but he might grow up, too.

Thought I'd bump this for the latest episode! I really like this season so far. Betty's dad cracks me up--he reminds me of John McCain for some reason. I wonder if Sally is really going to start acting out this season. The way she returned the money cracked me up.

And he doesn't seem to have any desire to break up his marriage over them. Or is it that Don is a little envious of Roger? Yeah, Roger might be an old fool, but he is really, really happy with Jane. I dislike Jane more and more each time we see her--she sure is putting on airs!

To be honest? I'm getting bored. I having the same feeling as I started to get last season, where are they going with all this? Anywhere? I think it's high time for someone, anyone, to have a spectacular nervous breakdown and throw the potted plants through the office windows. I nominate Pete.
It gave me a sense of foreboding. Sally Draper is a very disturbed young girl, and her mother is obviously unhappy. Betty's parents fucked her up but good. Betty's father being there is a recipe for disaster.
God, Roger is such a pig.
