My dream is to have a house with one room converted into a little library.

I would love this as well! Actually, I had no idea you were such an avid reader and while I've liked you as a poster for some time now, this adds some nice depth. Nice pictures of the books and you, and thanks for sharing!

I wish I had taken a picture of myself yesterday. I looked hot. Even got hit on by a gay dude.
If that gay dude was Mcbundy you aren't that special :p
I didn't see a mustache...but he was quite drunk...but he wasn't drinking gin. He was drinking Bud Light, so I think it was a different dude.
You may be right, but i do know he's been trying to switch things up a bit. The other night i caught him drinking Scotch

It sounds like you did a very similar itinerary to what we did, albeit water based instead.

The 'best buns' pic I posted above was on the highway that roughly parallels the Skagway-Yukon railroad line. I saw the rail line several times. The drive from Whtiehorse to Skagway was oustanding. It got sunny as soon as we hit the BC portion of things.

Skagway was a great town. We got there around 5 PM and it was a total blur with all the bus and rail tours getting back and the people scrambling back to their cruise ships.

We ducked into a bar in town and had a couple pints of local beer around 6, walked out about 7 and it was a ghost town.

We took the Alaska Marine Highway from there down to Juneau, camped over by Mendenhall Glacier for the night, then grabbed a puddle jumper (not the Atlantis kind, but almost as cool) over to Gustavus, which is the town outside Glacier Bay.

We did a B&B package there for 3 days. The first day we had to just explore. We picniced by the town dock, which was an active fishing port. We were told to come back and check it out late afternoon, when the fishing boats return to port.

I thought it was to see someone gutting a halibut, which was cool in its own right. But its mainly to see the bald eagles, who go nuts for the leftover fish guts and bait. I must have seen 25 of them at a time, which is more than I've ever seen total in 29+ years (I don't mean 29+ like a lady who won't admit her age, just that 29<me<30.)

They did this thing on the pier where they would swarm all around to get the bait, the sort of move out of the way to let me pass. Words don't really do it justice, and I was mildly nervous about all those talons, but it was an amazing experience.

How much of Glacier Bay NP did you see. We took the glacier cruise and saw it all, including the waterfall inside this glacier whose name escapes me.

Wow, we did follow a similar route, didn't we? That's funny, I remember seeing that highway from the train. ;) Skagway was kinda cool, but we were a little disappointed to see the typical cruise port shops like Diamonds International, etc. I mean, I can understand it in the Caribbean, but in Alaska? Gold, maybe, but Diamonds? But, the town itself was pretty cool. We actually really liked Ketchikan, and found some fun locals in Juneau to have a beer (or 3) with.

We did the entire western arm of Glacier Bay, Reid, Lamplugh, Johns Hopkins, Marjorie and Grand Pacific Glaciers. I have a nearly identical picture of the waterfall within the glacier, though from a slightly higher angle. ;) I believe that was the Lamplugh. The Johns Hopkins was just spectacular. There were several hundred people out on deck that morning, enjoying the sights and chitchatting, but when we rounded Jaw Point and the JH came into view this incredible hush swept over the crowd. You could hear a pin drop. I'll post it below.

The B&B package sounds very cool. And, yeah, I was amazed how many Bald Eagles we saw. They were everywhere. We had them swooping down on the dock in Ketchikan where we departed for our float plane tour of Misty Fjords, and then again when the return boat tied up to let us off. It was a working pier (and smelled like it), and the eagles were everywhere.

It was actually really cool for me to see them because I can remember when I was a kid and they were put on the Endangered Species list. There were these PSA's all the time (during Saturday morning cartoons, even :p ) talking about how they could become extinct. It was pretty cool to see that we did something right, and they actually did come back.

And, I know it's probably sacrilege to say this, but we saw a Golden Eagle in Denali that was actually a much more beautiful and majestic bird than the Bald Eagle.

Whoops, I guess I've gone on more than long enough about that. You're right, we should chat more via PM. Happy to swap pic's.

Oh, and thanks again for the Photobucket advice. Here's my first official post from there: The Johns Hopkins Glacier. :)

Thanks Kestra! In most cases, I'd rather be reading than watching TV. Most of the TV I watch is sports, and more often than not I'm reading or writing during play stoppages. I renew my Chapters/Indigo card every year and always more than save the cost of it in discounted purchases. Book buying is my sole vice, and I have a bad habit of buying faster than I can finish them.

Ruaidhri, nice selection of nonfic!

I had to leave behind a lot of non-fiction when I separated from my wife last year, so what I have now is a somewhat depleted selection. I have these on the my dresser in the bedroom, some of which are old college textbooks that I really enjoyed. It occurs to me that someone's book collection can tell you a lot about them.

That does it. Posting all these book pictures has me dead-set on getting more shelves next weekend so I can unload some more boxes. :borg:

Please don't ever stop posting pictures of these children, RoJoHen. At times they look like holy terrors but they are sweet beyond belief, and I can't imagine the picture thread without the occasional dose of them.

^ Remember when you were a teen and the old family photo album would be dragged out so that you could be embarrassed by your family with your old baby pictures? One day this thread will be resurrected for the same reason...

[TeenGia] OMG! That's so embarrassing! Close it! NOW! [/TeenGia]

:D

And since I now know how, reposting the pic I liked to above:

Our cruise companions on the left, "The Hubby" in solid blue and me on the far right in blue stripes:

And us standing on the Mendenhall Glacier in front of our "ride":

And last but not least, "our boys", Ledger and Kodi (short for Kodiak) just after their 1st birthday in June:

Just a few snaps from bookshelves in my room, which represent about 1/4 of my collection:

I started rearranging my books to be asthetically pleasing. So far, only done with the 5 bookcases in my room ;)

I was about to comment on that! It would drive my sensibilities nuts, though. I keep noticing that one of my shelves has two Joe Haldeman books that aren't next to each other and it's bothering me. Time to go move one....

I tried that a couple of weeks ago. Colour-coordinated Aurian's harlequins; she only has several million. Now I get blamed for her no longer being able to find her way around her books :shifty:

This is a really good snap. I approve of your choice of drink too. And your shirt pattern (I just recently ordered one in a similar bengal stripe, but a shade darker blue).

The guy on the far left is a dead-ringer for a former work colleague of mine.

Why, thank you, kind sir. You're clearly a man of good taste and breeding. ;)

The man on the left is named Mark, originally from Western Massachusetts, then the Boston area for several years, then he and his lovely wife moved to Chicago for several years, and now they're back in southwestern Connecticut. Sound familiar?
