I'm a Southern Comfort man. My older sister drank it when she was towards the end of her schooling and I think I gained a half bottle when she left home and that's how I got into it. I drink it often enough that when I don't drink it my friends always say, "Where's your Southern Comfort?" I am not a fan of rum and if I can I won't drink it and have bourbon instead. Unfortunately at the races I've been to in the last few years they have only had bourbon that I don't like and is so bad that drinking rum becomes the only sensible option if having spirits. I'll also drink it if it's free.
Ugh, I cannot drink SoCo anymore. I had a bad experience once, and now just the smell of it makes me gag. The same experience is the reason I can no longer drink Dr. Pepper.
Me too. I can't stand Vodka period and I could never figure out why it became so popular. Maybe all the fruit flavors they put into it.
I can't stand vodka either. I even made a vodka martini for my friend and took a sip. Couldn't stand it. Ugh. Give me gin. Sure it may smell like pine needles, but I call it Christmas in a glass.
I don't drink very often (which might explain why I'm such a lightweight ), but when I do imbibe, I keep it pretty simple: I'll usually just have a beer (or several), something golden-coloured -- I've never developed a taste for darker stuff like Guinness. I generally stick with Molson Canadian or Alexander Keith's. Occasionally I'll encounter a white wine that I enjoy -- red not so much. Vodka coolers are fine as well; actually, there are some I find quite tasty. As for mixed drinks and cocktails and the like -- eh, some are okay... I don't really have any favourites. Perhaps I haven't found the right one yet. I'm definitely not much of an alcohol connoisseur, and I usually stay away from the harder stuff (unless I'm already drunk -- then all bets are off).
I found this to be a surprisingly good bourbon for the relatively cheap price. It has the firey taste of say, Maker's Mark, but with a much smoother and refined finish. And at a better price!
Favourite Beers Special Reserve Orkney Dark Island and Ola Dubh (special reserve Old Engine Oil) Both beers matured in whiskey casks which give them a delicious taste and make them around 8.5% which is pretty strong for beer. Sadly The Orkney Dark Island is about £8 a bottle which is pretty steep for a bottle of beer. Lagavulin - easily my favourite whiskey it tastes like liquid peat and smoke.
Yeah, it's a real bargain. I went through a phase when I was trying every different small-batch bourbon I could find, and IMHO, none of them were better than Bulleit.
Fantastic, you can have this bottle of E&J Gallo Cabernet someone gave me then. I wouldn't even cook with it since I don't require my food to taste like Ribena.
Yeah, I just heard this recently. I first had it (after the ban) at a little hole in the wall local bar that I've frequented for years. The owner bought one of those beautiful old art deco decanter set ups with the matching slotted spoons and such. They make quite a show of the whole experience. I enjoy the ritual of it, but I suspect the flaming part is intended to add to the spectacle. My hubby and his entire family are Beefeater martini drinkers. They're the ones who really got me into them. I still drink that with them, but that's pretty much the only time I can do gin. As I said above, I actually quite like the taste of a gin martini, but if I have anything else -- beer, wine -- or more than 1 gin martini in an evening, it will leave me with the absolute worst hangover. Thus, the vodka. Whaddaya gonna do, right?
Couple of years ago I had a "bad experience" as well. It was six months before I could stomach it again. Man, I wish Dr Pepper was easier to find here. Can't remember where I last saw some...I wonder what SoCo would be like with it. Mail me some!
Beer and wine. I can't really stand to be liquor drunk any more. I used to drink a lot of vodka, but I really haven't been inclined to do so for about 10 or 12 years. I just end up feeling dizzy and sick when I drink such things. The exceptions are mojitos. I will take the occasional Jaeger shot, r a trashy candy shot of some sort when offered.
After having been voted Favorite Drunk in the Admirals Lounge for many years in a row now, I felt I should say something in this thread. However, strangely enough, being sobor at the time, I find myself at a loss for words.
I love a cosmopolitan. Though no matter how much weight I lose and those days I brush my hair, or wear make up.... I still get funny looks from the overly hetero crowd.
I don't drink much anymore...but when I do I'll hit some wine, wine coolers or a bay breeze. I will only drink Vodka and no other hard liquor at this point. In my younger days I would drink anything and a lot of it.
ahhh I remember the days of 199 proof grain in a shot glass on fire burning my nose hairs mmm guess the nose hairs were not needed back then ., since the psycho-rehab back in 92 I have partayed little if any at all, I am now without the drink for about 12 years ... actually Since I suffer from the medical condition of diabetes i do not even have sugar (try that?) I lost weight from not eating the sugar but I am still over weight ... although now and then a good sugar fix is similar to drinking a beer (really I lost all sorts of tolerance for even that) I remember they always talked about crossing over a line when I drank because I would not stop drinking till I was beyond the black-out phase of drunk.. the spinning room was and is still spinning (without even drinking these days...)
