Don't know if this has been asked before,, probably has,,, who do you all think would prevail? The Federation and Allies vs. The Imperium of Man..

Based on what I know, Federation seems to have a huge technological advantage, at least in space combat.

I would strongly contest that. Starfleet ships are dwarfed by an Imperial Escort, let alone a capital ship. One Lance hit on a Federation ship and they would be dust.

Space Marines would whoop ass. c'mon they carry guns that fire armour-piercing RPG rounds FFS. Beam on SM onto any Fed ship and he'd be punching holes in the hull and the crew.

Size is not that important. Federation ships can manuver and fire at warp speeds. The imperial ships would never know what hit them.

I think that in a pitched battle the imperium would win, fortunately I think the Federation is better led, and due to the xenos scum plus unconcecrated technology the imperium's inquisitionwould keep executing their own troops.!

One thing not mentioned.. the Imperium is far larger than the Federation,,, or even the alpha quadrant for that matter. They have massive amounts of materials to call upon.. but also they are far slower building and repairing ships...

If i remember correctly, they do employ shields... and they do have some transporter tech, tho its very limited..

Thats hard to describe... if you don't know much about the Warhammer stuff,,uh.. guys give it a shot eh heh

Wow, seems like I'm finding this discussion everywhere I go, lately. ;)

The Imperium of Mankind, in a walk. They have trillions of soldiers, well over a million ships, which are vastly larger with vastly more firepower, and insanely elite soldiers. The Imperium could take on the Federation, Klingons, Romulans all at once and win. Hell, they could probably take the Dominion and the Borg simultaneously, too.

The Imperium wins this easy they have trillions of troops at their disposal and far more ships and a greater industrial capacity than the Feds have.

Earth alliance wouldn't last long against the 40k ... at all
How powerful are these guys?

Short primer on the Warhammer 40K universe:

The Imperium of Man consists of hundreds of thousands of inhabited worlds and some of them are called Hive Worlds that contain up to a hundred billion people.

Their techlevel is kind of stuck on a moderate to high level since their golden age of technology and discovery but since then much was lost due to wars and superstition.

This means that most of their powerful tech is very old and needs constant maintenance and if some very complicated devices fail it may be impossible to repair them.
What this leads is to is space ships that are gigantic in comparison to Star Trek.. main battleships are kilometres long (their command ships are somewhere in the 15km range) and their light cruiser are bigger than anything Starfleet has ever produced but they are in constant danger of just falling apart.

The Imperium relies on brute power.. a single capital ship is capable of devastating an entire world but it is big, slow and for sure very outclassed by Starfleet vessels. However they are heavily armored and shielded and did i mention big so one needs to inflict quite some damage to really affect them.

Another thing to take into consideration are boarding actions.. if done by "normal" imperial Navy personell then they'd be not that different to Starfleet personell. Maybe leaning a bit more to the true military but they'd be a match for Starfleet (Starfleet officers rarely wear any kind of body armor).

However if the boarding action is performed by Space Marines then a Starfleet ship is in real trouble. Space Marines are the absolute elite of the Imperium. 2,5m tall, genetically enhanced superwarriors designed for the most extreme and dangerous missions and equipped with a fully enclosed combat armor and firing a mini-grenade/missile launcher as a standard assault rife means they'd rip anything apart they encounter on a Starfleet vessel (these types of actions are their specialty after all).

Personally i'd put my money on the 40K Imperium.. Starfleet vessels could run rings around them but they don't have the firepower to destroy a vessel that's 10+ kilometres long and that itself is loaded for bear with weapons of all kinds.

Sure the imperial technology sucks in comparison to Starfleet but a single direct hit by an imperial weapons battery or a lance battery (huge, honkin' superlaser) would instantly destroy even a Sovereign class.

If we are going the realism route then Starfleet torpedoes should have been vastly more powerful than depicted in the shows.. they contain warheads that are vastly more powerful than any nuclear bomb and should some of them detonate inside an imperial ship then even they stand no chance

The Imperium of Man would stomp the Federation. They have pretty much an unfathomably large military force that they could just overwhelm purely with numbers. Add to their conventional military might, they have psykers who can mess you day up.

The Federation would have no hope of peaceful coexistance with the Imperium as I doubt they would convert to worship the Emperor and the Imperium would destroy the Federation, despite its seemingly huge human influence just because they are heretics and alien-lovers. Vulcan, Andor, Tellar, would probably get a makeover by the Imperial Fleet just on principle.

It is probably impossible to have the Imperium of Man and also not have Chaos. Now you throw in unadulterated magic freakiness as well...Daemons...warp spawn...the warp itself...
