So I noticed that the Route 9 Steakhouse in Framingham is now Big Papi's Grille on the way to the gym this morning.

I heard someone make the argument that by leaking the names like this, each person is punished individually. If the list were released all at once, they could hide behind everyone else's name.

Here's the thing: "The List," for lack of a better term, is sealed under a federal court order pending further litigation. Each discrete leak of a player's name from that list is a felony offense punishable by a not insignificant amount of jail time. Releasing the entire list en masse, however, would probably be traceable and would result in the hammer being brought down with Hell's fury.

It's also easy to wear a tinfoil hat and imagine ESPN executives saying,

Shit, Brett Favre said he's not coming back -- what's our big story now?

Fuck. Well, John Kruk hasn't had a chance to get all self-righteous for a while now. Guess we'd better call that judge's clerk again and ask for another name.

Definitely a good win by the Tigers tonight. Verlander gave up 5 runs in the top of the first, but shut down the Orioles for the next seven innings. The Tigers then chipped away at the lead, and got a walk-off homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.

I kind of wish I had been able to watch it. Damn finals.

And Takashi Saito implodes for the Red Sox in extra innings. I'm starting to think that Japanese pitchers are just too fragile to handle the rigors of the longer MLB season. We've seen this with both Dice-K and Okajima in the past--and that's just the Sox pitching staff.

So, 1.5 games out of first but looking like a 3-game lead on the wild card. Looks like the AL East will be down to the wire like it always is.

Saito didn't really implode...he made one bad pitch and Longoria killed it. It was a tough game, but it was a very good one as well, from a technical standpoint.

^ Perhaps, but early fatigue is a continuing problem with Japanese pitchers, it seems. Penny was very "meh" today and I doubt Smoltz--who seems to me a failed experiment--will do much better in the Bronx tomorrow. At least the Rangers lost too.

EDIT: Looks like my prediction has unfortunately turned out to be true. Smoltz was blown away tonight.

My Twins couldn't even win a series against Cleveland- a team that jettisoned some of their best players last week. I hope the Twins were just saving their best for the series against the Tigers.

The Red Sox are officially in a slide. Looks like they'll be in third place in the AL East and lose the wild card lead by the end of the weekend. Great.
