I think my funniest award that I won was after my first semester in ROTC. The officers running the unit were asked by some community organization to nominate an outstanding cadet to be recognized by the organization. The name of the cadet was supposed to be kept a secret until the award dinner (where they handed out awards by several organizations at once). I was nominated for this award, and it was the last award given out for the evening. (I wish I could remember the name of the organization.) Anyway, I got the award, and the representatives from the organization looked a little uncomfortable as I walked up to accept it. I did some research on the organization afterward, and it turns out that it's a men-only group. (I've often wondered if the captain nominated me on purpose to tweak with them. I wouldn't put it past her.)

I won a Robert Burns poetry recital contest when I was in primary school - two years in a row. Not bad for an outsider.

As far as winning awards and prizes, the odds are totally against me. I've bought tons of raffle tickets for charity events and have never won a single prize. Lottery tickets, well, I've won maybe $5.00 prizes here and there. Achievement awards, yes, I've received some acknowledgement awards (e.g., job performance, etc.). But prizes? Not really.

2: Anything other than air, water, or my eyelids touching my eyes. That's why I wear glasses instead of contacts. Eye surgery or injuries too. I was watching How It's Made and they showed how LASIK is done, five seconds in I had to stop watching. Also, the part of A Clockwork Orange with the ocular speculums is difficult for me to watch.

I'm the same. Absolutely cannot cope with the idea of anything in my eye.

I also get queasy about the idea of wearing piercings. I can cope with seeing people with the piercings already in, but I can't even watch my husband put in ear-rings, it makes me feel faint. And you can forget about my actually helping put them in!

I think I got like First Place (and a ribbon of sorts) for a drawing of a rose I did when I was in middle school. I could probably scan it and put it online. The vase it's in is pretty poor looking, but that can give you details about the competition I was up against.

Yep - one in each ear. From way back before it made a difference if it was one, two, which ear...

I won a drawing contest when I was seven and my prize was a set of towels embroidered with teddy bears. I still use those towels at the age of 24!

That's great! For the release of the 6th Harry Potter book I went to one of the midnight bookstore parties with some friends. They had all sorts of activities including a drawing contest, which I assumed was just for the kiddies. However, 5 minutes to midnight they announced that the prize for the drawing contest would be a free copy of the book and that there would be both a kid's and adult's prize given! I snatched up the only three crayons left --yellow, brown, and orange -- and whipped out a portrait of Hagrid and won the book!
On the way home I was so excited that I crashed my bike on the corner of 14th st and 3rd ave when I tried to make the turn at top speed. Fortunately, I had the book to keep me company while I was laid-up with a sprained ankle. Those books really do make me feel like a kid again. (And the drawing of Hagrid is still tucked away in the book.)

I have one more fact to add:

I like to play with my chewing gum. I always chew on Orbitz gum when I'm at work. So right now, there's a lump of "chewed" gum stuck under my desk, about 1.5 inches in diameter. When I'm bored, I try to squeeze it in one hand; it feels just like one of those stress balls.

Me, too! (Well, I'm non-denominational Christian.) I got "ordained" by the Universal Life Church (through their website). I can legally perform weddings in California.

In kindergarden I use to flirt with these two indian girls who were twins. My whole flirting technique was me basically pretending to get their names mixed up.


I got a pimple on my ass, that never goes away.

I had a huge crush on a girl called Sara Dolezal in high school. I would therefore love it whenever the Starship song "Sara" came on because I would just sit back and think of her.

I was part of the video yearbook squad. I played basketball and football. In basketball I would play in the jv game and then go get the cam-corder and film the girls game and the boys main squad games. I once missed a entire half of a game because I had diariera and was in the bathroom.
