I Quit

I don't smoke either. My brother used to smoke several years ago. He quit when his second kid was born. Before then, he would go outside to light up. What really bothered me was when he would borrow my old car, before he got his, and he would light up in my car. I don't smoke so i found it rather disrespectful when he would smoke in my car.

Now THIS I can relate to. My brother did the same damn thing. Not only that, but when we lived together he used to smoke IN MY BEDROOM.

Used to irritate the shit out of me.

Well, you could always ask him to not do it, you know? If he still did it, it's got nothing to do with being a smoker and all the more with being an arse in general. :D

I've smoked for more then 12 years and, aside from people who complain without merit (such as being outside and complaining that you're smoking 20 meters away from them), I always accede to demands and I'll never, ever smoke in the house (or room) of someone who doesn't smoke. I will, however, ask first, especially if it's raining; some people don't mind much if you stand by the window. But even then, if they indicate they don't want people to smoke in the house, I will not smoke in the house. That's common courtesy.

Oh, it's not a problem now. We haven't lived together in years. That's why it USED to irritate me.

And you're right. When I did ask him to stop he was an ass abut it.

You don't want to know what he said to my mom when she asked him to stop......

Not ALL chicks dig smokers! I sure don't. But I'm not a smoker myself. My parents smoked forever. Mom quit cold turkey in 2007 when she was going into congestive heart failure and hasn't picked up a cig since. Dad picked up cigs again after I turned 21 but quit over six months or so ago because he couldn't afford the price of them. It's outrageous the cost of cigs nowadays from those damn tax laws here in US! I'm glad I've never even picked one up.
Why are you mad about the tax laws? You want your dad to start smoking again so he can be as unhealthy as your mom? I would have been glad about the high cost of cigarettes if that had been enough to stop my dad from smoking.

I quit on January 29th of 2005 after about 17yrs of smoking. I had become ill a few days earlier and couldn't smoke so, when I started to get better I just didn't smoke anymore.

I was insane for about a week. I would snap at anybody about anything. I simply wasn't fit to be around. After that first week the only time I would think about smoking would be in my dreams. I would smoke ALOT in my dreams but felt no urge in my waking life. This has tapered off over time and now, I rarely have a dream in which I do any smoking.

When I did smoke, I smoked about a pack and a half a day. Every six months I would switch between Marlboro reds and Camel Lights. I have never met any other smokers who would alternate like that. Right in the middle of my 17yrs of smoking I rolled my own (Drum) for about 7yrs. I could roll anywhere and at any time, no matter what I was doing.

In the interest of full disclosure I should probably mention that I do smoke an occasional cigar, maybe 6-12 a year. After all, there was something about tobacco that I did enjoy.

Good Luck, ThankQ! You did it the right way. Cold Turkey has the highest success rate(something those patch companies don't want you to know).

^ I can agree with that. Most of the people I know who quit did it that way too.

You don't stop everything to smoke. That's one of the things that make it so hard. You smoke while you do everything.

Exactly.

By the time I'd eaten, dressed and driven to work in the morning I'd have smoked five or six cigarettes.

Again, exactly.

At one point I had even figured out how to smoke while I was brushing my teeth. I also had a talent for holding a cigarette in the corner of my mouth while I talked on the phone and it not impede my speech. I am also very high strung so I usually do several things at once anyway so adding a tiny burning paper cylinder to the equation never even slowed me down. Cooking, cleaning, driving, painting, yard work, sex... I could smoke doing it all. :rommie:

I know how to roll (with cigarette paper and tobacco) a cigarette with one hand on my leg, in a single stroke.
