Trek t-shirts

I've worn Trek Ts in public and no one blinks. I've even had customers give me the Vulcan salute based on the Trek stuff strewn around my computer/workstation. Life is short. Wear what you wish to when you wish where you wish. It could even start fun conversations and help you meet like minded people.
I agree with what you are saying. Several years ago I was wearing a Ten-Forward t-shirt in a local mall and a girl approached me and began an animated conversation and then the wife appeared and then the girl beat a hasty retreat. To this day my wife still insists that this girl (lady) was interested in me. I tried to tell her that she is just a fan and was enjoying talking to another fan. My wife says different. Long story short, if I had been single I just might of met my future girlfriend or wife because of that t-shirt. You never know.

Yes, exactly. Tees are the perennial favourite because they're a sort of proclamation of one's opinions or interests. I've started conversations with people over their shirts, and gained a few friends by it. :) Life really is too short to be embarrassed by your interests.

I have Carolina Tarheel t-shirts (great for doing yard work) and a Jeff Gordon #24 long sleeve t-shirt (for cooler weather). Those are the only 'branded' shirts I own.
I have always believed that companies should pay me to advertise their products, rather than me pay them to do so.

yours is one of the most enlightened opinions regarding branding I've seen!

Aww.. shucks:alienblush:... You just made a miserable day a lot better.:techman:

When it comes to geeky shirts, I prefer the sort of geekiness level which you'd only get if you thought it was cool. Along the lines of my "The Angels have the Phonebox" t-shirt. To normal person, meaningless, so no social stigma. To the correct fan, a subtle shared joke. Same with my friend's "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" shirt.

Some of the people I've seen wearing branded shirts make me think they are doing that company a great disservice. The company should sue to stop them from wearing their name or logo.

You guys are such self haters. I wear almost nothing but nerd paraphernalia. Comic book characters, super hero symbols, boba fett hoodie.

My Trek shirt is a tight black T from Marc Jacobs that someone gave me. It had a silly peace symbol on the left breast. I couldn't return it so I bought a TOS arrowhead iron on patch and covered it up. Looks totally hot.

And that's the point. Is your nerd shirt a good cut? Is it cotton? Does it look good on you? I get so many compliments on my nerd gear by people on the street. It looks good.

Now, is your nerd shirt two sizes too big? Covered in cat hair? Did you tuck it in to your khakis so that your blackberry holster won't be out of sight? Then you have bigger style problems than your tshirt print.

I don't understand why some people place so much importance on what's on your shirt.

I simply go to the nearest Jack & Jones, pick out a few that aren't horrible and look good on me, and I'm done. I don't even know what they say; I've never taken the time to read them nor am I interested in doing so.

QFT!

I wear my Junk Food Clothing "Star Trek" tee out all the time, but I must admit, it took the increased public presence of the new movie to make me do so.

Still recovering from the stigma I picked up in elementary school for wearing a combadge to class for a year. Thank God I went to college out of state, or my sex life would have been non-existent.

I too recently received my Kelloggs Kirk tunic. I like the thing a lot, but it's only gonna make it out of the house for costume parties and ST movie premieres.

Always wanted a logo-less variant of the ST4/5 "bomber jacket" that Scotty and Kirk were fond of; I think that's one of the most easily-adaptable-to-real-world designs in all of Star Trek.

I've considered sewing a felt Klingon symbol (or purchasing a patch, should one exist) onto the pocket of a skirt, or perhaps adding some Starfleet insignia to a plain shirt (rather than blowing twenty dollars for this, premade).

Then again, females have a much easier time getting away with it; back when I was addicted to WoW, my wardrobe contained a whole array of Blizzard shirts. A lot of guys seemed impressed/taken aback that a girl should wish to freely display such geekyness--same deal with the shirt I made for the Watchmen premiere, featuring a giant Doctor Manhattan symbol across the chest. Granted I don't engage in PDN (public displays of nerd) on a daily basis, but I'm far from ashamed to do so every now and then.

One might argue that there comes a time at which a person must "grow up" and vanquish such nerdtasticness from his or her wardrobe, but I say, rock on! Rarely do I find myself in a public place where I do not compliment someone on a shirt relating to comics, sci fi, etc (which tells you a lot about the public places I visit). While I've never made any lasting connections based on someone's t-shirt design, I have had some fun and interesting conversations. My point is: "Say it loud! I'm a geek and I'm proud!" And now I await the ghost of James Brown to slap me full across the face.

I have a hilarious Andy Warhol-esque spock one from a rummage sale: three square "paintings" of him, then in the fourth he raises his eyebrow with the word "fascinating" underneath.

And yes I wear it. Why not? I wear Miles Davis and Fort Hays State. Why not Trek? I am what I am.

Like DR CHANDRA here, i've got the Starfleet Academy sticker on my car's back window. Also have my Hallmark Klingon Bird-of-Prey ornament hanging from my rear view mirror (helps during road rage).

My license plates were at one time, vanity plates, and my plate simply said TREKGIRL. I was often complimented on them (although a couple of times people thought it meant i hiked). One guy once came up to me in a parking lot after i got out of my car and said, "OMG! I've been wanting to meet you forever! I love your plates!!" and he proceeded to point out his business van which was all done up in ST lettering.

I have a Starfleet Academy Tee that i wear outside in public (screw 'em if they cant deal with it). I use to have this awesome TOS shirt that said something like "Who needs a next generation"? done up in the old New Coke vs Old Coke style. Unfortunately with age, i am a tad fluffier than i use to be, so i can't wear that one anymore.

AND i have my badass Star Trek denim jacket with the Enterprise embroidered on the back that i got at the STE. I've lierally worn that thing to death.

I've never had anyone say anything nasty or inappropriate to me, and in fact, have only been complimented by other people that come up and say "I love Trek too~" etc. Its been a nice way to connect with other Trekkies.

So wear your shirts and wear 'em proud!

I have a navy blue colored lieutant commander shirt but ,I don't wear it in public .I use it sometimes when I am on my treadmill.

The only thing that kept me from getting the Kellogg's tee-shirts is that I really never liked the black v-neck collars on the TOS uniforms to begin with...

I have a couple of jackets with different metal Starfleet insignia and the corresponding rank pins on them, but I only wear them during cool or cold weather though. Nobody gives me any grief over them and anyone who wants to can truly honestly kiss my ass.

I wear Trek, comic book, scifi t shirts, why wouldn't I? I'm not concerned about what anyone thinks, after all,, I am geeky/nerdy or what not..

I saw a Trek shirt on a self-promo commercial on AMC last night that I want. It was very simple, all it had was "KHAAAAAAN!" printed across the front. :techman:

I have several Trek t-shirts, most of which were purchased from STTE. I have the Trekkie definition shirt, the "You Know You're A Trekkie If" shirt, KHAAAAN!, and a couple more generic trek shirts that I've picked up. I don't think it's a big deal. As stated before, it's no different than wearing a band or sports shirt around, and I too have had some great conversations with people, just because of the shirts.
