The "New" TARDIS revealed!

Having said that, the current TARDIS is so badass in comparison, it's hard to look at the new one without thinking "fugly".

Skip five years back in time and RTD is getting death threats for approving a Police Box that's the wrong size and shape and with the wrong windows.

Skip forward a few years and if it changes again people will be wisihng for the good old Moffat box back...

And so it goes, and so it goes, and the book says we might be done with the past box, but the past box is not done with us.

This photo makes the Police Box look far less huge. I can't help but think the others were a bit of an optical illusion.

(hotlink)

StCoop, unless that is your own Web space or hosting, which I don't think it is considering its blogspot nature, please don't hotlink images. I see that you were already given a notice to not do this in February of this year. If it happens again, it'll be an infraction.

Thanks. :)

If they re-do the interior, I'd like something like this (suitably updated for HD, of course). Quite roomy, though it would perhaps look better with brushed metal and a lot of posh Victorian era props (chairs, tables etc) as a contrast enhancer. Perhaps a carpet and a few oak-lined walls.

Or, failing that, something unnerving like this might be interesting as well.

Personally, I think that the time to do the steampunk look for the TARDIS interior has long since passed, now that the Doctor derives his dress sense from the 20th century, as opposed to the 19th. As such, I think the TARDIS's insides should follow a similar bit... I'd like to see something an an Art Deco/Streamline style or something in a 60s modern style similar to some of the classic console rooms.

Looks more like a red to me.

I'll have to do an extensive analysis in Photoshop to prove that as usual, you are wrong.

:P

Hmmmm ... I'm not likely to get worked up about it, but I side with Sci, I liked the Thomas (Eccleston-Tennant) model. I can't help but wonder why they'd paint the Tardis up to look so new ... unless ...

Say, you don't suppose that isn't actually the current Tardis, do you? Might the first story involve paths crossed with an earlier incarnation, requiring Smith's Doctor to hijack an earlier Tardis?

Anyway, who knows what necessitated the construction of a new prop? Perhaps the old one was wearing out, or new materials allowed for a Tardis that could be broken down and transported easier. I'll wait and see what the final product looks like on screen before I toss eggs at it.

Besides, imagine if J.J. Abrams had gotten hold of it ...

I think it mainly has to do with the show being in HD now. The brighter blue will show up better on tv screens instead of the current one.

Although I do have a soft spot for the current one and I'm going to miss it.

It looks as though it will stand out too much in HD.

Just look at the moiré effect of the wood grain!! Someone got it right when they said it looks like a toy but the grain on the toy is less obvious.

There's no subtlety too it. I hope I am proved wrong.

If the windows are blacked out we won't get that cool glow either!

I'm well aware of this, and remember that nonsense well, but that doesn't make it a crime to prefer the current version at the moment given the evidence at hand.

But as I said in the rest of the post you quoted from, we're all gonna have to wait and see how it pans out. ;)

It's retro look, like something from the first series. I like it. It's different enough to know this is no longer the RTD era.

we need a David Cameron to promise "A TARDIS on every Street" I think of many ways that might help with crime, however I fear that if it was found empty someone might pee in it.

They're not easy to get into for a drunken pee. Theres quite a few still about in Glasgow - one of them is a coffee stall now.

Well I like the new TARDIS and the new outfits, both the doctors and the companions.

:p
