The "New" TARDIS revealed!

Maybe this is a consequence of the finale...the Doctor's TARDIS get restored to factory standard, minus chameleon circuit on the inside and out, but the cost is one regeneration.

Or they pull the delightful "fixes chameleon circuit and we get to see the Tardis change a couple times...but then it breaks again and gets stuck on another police call box, much to the doctor's delight."

Remember that Donna told the Doctor how easy it would be for him to fix the circuit.

Sci, that IS the original design. Moffat appears to be going back to the classic series, which you hate because you think it's all JNT.

PLEASE can I have this as my avatar?!?! :guffaw:
Of course. :D

I'm clearly not very observant, because I don't really see a difference between this TARDIS and the previous one, aside from the fresh paint.

White window frames, different window glass, different lamp, return of the St John's Ambulance badge.

Basically it's returned to the way it looked back when the series started in 1963. (Actually it's probably a little bit closer to the version seen in the Peter Cushing films.)

Yeah, looks pretty much the same to me too. A blue police box.

It essentially looks like it did in 1963. The windows are different, the "St. John's Ambulance" logo is back on the door and I think the lamp is a little different too. The big white notice on the other door is also new and fresh.

Edit: looks like there's an echo in here. ;)

No, you just, like all other sensible folk, just don't care enough to notice.

It's a blue police box now, it's a blue police box next year. Honestly. I thought I'd seen it all, but people really will whinge about absolutely anything.

Sci, that IS the original design.

I never used the term "original design." I said that I prefer the current design -- that is, I prefer the TARDIS prop they've been using since Christopher Eccleston's first episode. I never claimed that the Eccleston/Tennant TARDIS prop was the original design.

Moffat appears to be going back to the classic series, which you hate because you think it's all JNT.

I don't dislike the new TARDIS because it's more closely patterned on the DW TOS TARDIS, I dislike the new TARDIS because I don't think it looks as good as the current design. The current TARDIS -- by which I mean, the Eccleston/Tennant TARDIS -- actually looks like it's made of wood. It looks old and rickety and magical, and I love the proportions of it.

With this design, it looks too new. It doesn't look old or rickety. It looks like it's either not made of wood or like it's made of wood that was just bought from a store two weeks ago. The windows look really fake. And I don't like the proportions -- I would tend to prefer a TARDIS that is less wide than that.

I know some people can't stand the thought that I'm not a DW TOS fan and therefore believe any and all criticisms I make are mere blasphemy uttered for the sake of uttering thoughtless invective, but believe it or not, I could actually give a shit one way or the other if the TARDIS design originated from DW TOS or not. I just don't happen to like it, irrelevant of when it was first designed.

ETA: Now, do I consider this a huge deal? No, I do not. I have no doubt that Moffat and Company are going to deliver a wonderful, fun Doctor Who in 2010. But this happens to simply be a creative choice I disagree with.

It looks screaming Photoshopped in! I'm not saying it is, but between the aforementioned perspective trickery and the direct sunlight and the very clean surface and the blurry sand dune the foreground ... it looks like a photo of one of the old toys comped into the shot.

The BBC needs to run tighter control on cameras on the set and which pics get out. They are so lucky that I adore Moffat. It really is the only thing keeping me interested.

we need a David Cameron to promise "A TARDIS on every Street" I think of many ways that might help with crime, however I fear that if it was found empty someone might pee in it.

I love how they've chosen a wood with a grain that really stands out. You don't see this grain on the other Tardis models. Obviously a HD decision there!

Does anyone else think that if his costume mirrors his new personality he may have repainted it himself, as a weekend DIY project?

It's too clean!! Even when it was clean in the black an white days the grainy film stock made it look dirtier.

That kid needs to come up to it again and spray 'Bad Wolf' on the side.
