The "New" TARDIS revealed!

I don't like the new TARDIS. I understand if they needed to re-do the TARDIS to accommodate HD, but I really think they should have modified the existing design (which is perfect).

As an aside, with Amy's outfit as it is with the huge sweaters she's been shown in, the tights... might she not be from the 21st century? I suppose her outfits seem a bit 1980's to me. That could just be the character's style too, of course.

Why didn't they paint it magenta, for once? The blue is getting a bit old.

No.
Why not? It's not a real police box, after all. And if the interior can change, and the exterior can change, why can't the exterior colour be changed, as well?

Here I thought this was basic knowledge about Doctor Who, but ok.

The TARDIS cannot change from what it last initially copied, a police box, because what's called the Chameleon Circuit is broken. Even in the few times the Doctor has fixed it, he changes it back because he grew fond of it.

In the real world, the TARDIS is the icon of Doctor Who. Even the image of the police box itself is copyrighted by the BBC. That is one thing they never will, and never should, change.

Of course I know that.

However, the TARDIS does change. It certainly looks different to the TARDIS the 10th Doctor had. So apparently, the in-universe explanation doesn't hold much weight. And if they can change the paint job of the window rims, they can change the paintjob of the wood just as easily.

See? Looks fine. Still looks like a TARDIS. :D

suddenly the actual TARDIS doesnt seem as bad

Pardon me for being technologically dull...but why would switching to HD require slight changes of the exterior of the TARDIS?

The exterior of the TARDIS has always changed. Presumably it occasionally cycles through different permutations of police box designs.

By the way, it was painted pink once ... that didn't last long!!!

So something like a loose panel, a bad spot of paint, etc. doesn't show up on screen, whereas before you may never have noticed it. HD can make shows that looked fine in standard definition look like shit.

Traditional set materials tend to be noticeable in HD; they look, well, flimsy and fake.

I do kind of wish they had make it look a bit more aged, though.

Maybe this is a consequence of the finale...the Doctor's TARDIS get restored to factory standard, minus chameleon circuit on the inside and out, but the cost is one regeneration.

Surely you jest. Perhaps painted in British Racing Green with a racing stripe is more to your liking?

there is only one thing in that picture I want to see painted green, and its not the TARDIS.

ok im going to have to spend sometime thinking about how I want to see Karen play Amy, because right she is just the best parts of all my ex's, or just women from TV that I like.

I can see that happening over time. It happened in the classic series, after all.
