Convince me to BUY Fringe when it comes out on DVD.

If it's on DVD, you can watch the episodes closer together and pick up on a lot of things. Even with standalone episodes, there are sometimes b-plots or clues that add up to much more later on. Sort of like Lost.

I think I"ll have to get it . . . I started to watch it, but I just didn't have time to stick with it, and Hulu only has the latest 10 episodes so I"ll have to get the dvd set to pick up where I left off

Walter Bishop is without a doubt one of the most entertaining characters I have seen in quite some time. Emmy winner caliber performances that will almost certainly be ignored by the idiots who vote on the emmys.

bishop the mad scientist character yes is worth it..
but really the series steadily got better as the season went on.

It's a fine show but not worth paying for directly.

I downloaded the bugger and a friend was holding the entire first season on one DVD, and he says "Is it worth watching?"

I explain that "it's like a really really dull version of the X-Files with a hot blonde girl".

He counters by saying that "the X-files was already extraordinarily dull and that the girl, he has seen and that she is not hot". Something about an "apeish forehead".

I agree with him on both points.

It's hard to sell ideas on this guy so i don't even try since he thinks less of me every time i tell him to watch anything mediocre bordering on shit when I assure him that it's quite good because I have lower standards. You must understand he's one of those people that plays world of war craft for 17 hours a day 7 days a week.

The advertising on TV made Fringe look like a kick ass action movie with explosions and whatnot, not a clever little detective story about following clues on slow boil to a tepid pay off.

Advertising overselling stuff is so dangerous.

The first half of the season was somewhat dull in certain aspects, but the latter half was great. The mythology is really getting developed, and it is taking a very different direction than the X-files I would say. (In an effort to avoid spoilers)

If you have doubts, I would recommend just watching the mid-season cliffhanger "Safe" (ep 10).
This was the first truly great episode, IMO. The one that turned me from a casual viewer into a fan.

I gave up around episode 4, Jim Steele convinced me to give it a second chance and I'm now up to episode 10, I'm liking it, but I'm not enthusiastic enough about it to sell anyone on it yet.

Buy it? I wouldn't even bother to watch it.

Why do people buy DVDs at all? If you're good about sending stuff back reasonably quickly, you can get your rental costs thru Netflix down to the $1.50 range.

I like being a library. People flock to you to get their fix.

Which does have you begin to wonder if your friends are really your friends if you run out of the junk they were jonsing for?

To support the shows they like, to have it on hand should they ever wish to watch it again, to not feel like they're spending money on something that will never be there's. are some of the reasons I can think of.

Agree. I keep telling my sister that the show is a total X-Files rip off righ down to the opening sequence and theme music, but is a REALLY good X-Files rip off. I do love that they are bothering to build the mytharc.

FOX is helping with this somewhat too. During an NFL playoff game one of their in stadium audience cameras caught "The Observer" standing in the stadium just doing what he does; watching. None of the game commentators mentioned him standing there all bald and mysterious looking. It was a nice little touch for "Fringe" fans.

It's a fantastic show, I love it and can't wait for it to come back. It's the best new show in some time and without a doubt the fall show I'm looking forward to the most.
