I feel that every Star Trek show that came after TOS should always pay respect and homage to Kirk and his crew.

I happen to be a big TOS fan myself but not every Voyager fan is. Also, it's not a requirement for anyone to "pay homage" to TOS or any other show. Speaking just for myself here I watch the shows I like, I come online and post about them if the mood strikes me then I go back to my real life.

Why is it when the Voyager crew went back to the year 1996 that no mention of the Eugenics War had happen. The Eugenics War was a major global conflict that resulted in 30 million people dying in this war. No mention whatsoever. The Voyager crew did not even bat an eye. This war has been mention in DS9, Enterprise, TOS, and Star Trek II. Is it because that the writers are not familiar with the Star Trek Cannon, or did not watch, care about TOS, or the previous movies from the 1980's.

Or is it because the actual year was 1996, and mentioning that the Eugenics Wars were supposed to be going on was ridiculous, seeing as how we'd barely cloned a sheep at that point? DS9 mentioned the Eugenics Wars, but only said that they'd happened a few hundred years before, while safely in the 24th century, removed from reality. Calling attention to the Augments would have only made the Eugenics Wars seem hokey at best and, at worst, cast a light on the mistakes of TOS.

Remembering the date of the Eugenics Wars is easy, as is name dropping it. It takes no respect and no real familiarity with TOS (Khan is, after all, the movie most known to the common audience). Knowing of the Eugenics Wars and deciding to not belittle their credibility does.

As a matter of fact, there is a model of the Botany Bay in Rain's office in that episode. So, no, Voyager was in fact aware of TOS. Just because you didn't like something doesn't mean you have to insult the people behind it.

I do feel that the Voyager episode did in fact belittle the TOS series and movies. That the writers did not care about the Star Trek Cannon and that they were bias and prejudice against TOS. The writers were either trying to separate the show from the rest of the Star Trek universe or simply did not want to deal with the war. That the writers could not deal with any such story, that dealt with 30 million people dieing in a war.You can not justify to me and say that the Eugenics War is not part of the cannon. Having a model of the Botany Bay on a desk in a office is not showing any respect or homage to TOS. Even though you may feel that TOS may have it's mistakes and that is your choice, but take this under consideration. Without TOS, there would have NEVER been a TNG, DS9, Enterprise, or even Voyager. I was NOT dissing TOS. I like TOS. I simply take umbrage at the claim that not directly mentioning the Eugenics Wars meant that the writers had no respect for TOS. Name dropping does not require respect. Smallville name-drops elements of DC comics all the time, but it is NOT at all respectful to the source material.

I totally agree with you. Everyone respects TOS (regardless of if they are actual fans of it or not) but I don't think something always has to be done to recognise it. We know it made ST what it is, we know it's where it all started, we respect the original cast but we don't need to show it all the time.

No disrespect to Voyager or the fan base. I love the entire Star Trek franchise, even Voyager. I have been a loving fan of Star Trek for 35yrs. I'm even considering of having portraits of the famous five Starfleet captains tattooed on my upper left leg The tattoo will be the size of a human hand. I wish I had a decent picture of Janeway with her hair down. I find that women with their hair pulled up are unattractive and way too cocky. Does anyone have a decent image of Janeway with her hair down? No picture with Janeway with her hair up. This is what I have for Janeway (See Below). Any picture of Janeway, will be appreciated. From all the Janeway promo pics, this must be one of the worst.

I personally find "season 6 Janeway" the most attractive from episode screencaps and from promopics. For example, the picture of her in Star Trek magazine (Voyager edition; March 2009) on page 4 is gorgeous.

And of course the legendary pic below. Freaking flawless. (Pic is from TrekCore)
