TrekBBS and Friends

It would be nice if the Friends list gets used by the BBS somehow in the future. Depends on what the board owners have up their sleeves I guess.

But if it is gonna be used by TPTB then I will have to regret not paying attention to the friendslist collection?

TO WHO IT MAY CONCERN:
I will give you a cookie you befriend me:adore::adore:

..ok maybe not a cookie. A smile and a nod. A cookie if i see you. Maybe two cookies. OK- a recipie for a cookie.....a..

The list means nothing. But it's fun sometimes to go to the friends lists of trolls and/or posters you don't like and take a snap shot of it because it says they have no friends. :)

Shame some of us unpopular trolls purposefully reject friend requests because they don't see the point in the feature.

Sometimes it's just my way of letting a person know I like them.

I have some people on my friendslist, and it's quite alright. But I have lots of people that I consider friends who arent on the friendslist too. It is just there.. I barely pay attention to it.
Pretty much the same here. I accept friends request if I get then, but it's not like Facebook where I've actually said no to friend requests since some people I don't want looking about my shit!

I clicked on this thread title thining it was going to be about the latest TrekBBS sitcom, "TrekBBS and Friends" starring Dick Van Dyke, Tracey Ullman and Billy Connolly or something. How disappointed I was to find it was a discussion about the Friends facility.

Back in December I sent out a lot of friend requests to certain people here, but only for one very specific reason (unconnected to this board) - amounting to just under half of the people on my friends list. Most of the rest of people were friend requests I had received from various kind people who acknowledged that I existed at the very least. :)

The exceptions (about a dozen or so of these) were those whom I had sent out invitations on the board following gaining good rapport with them through chat and things, mostly prior to December. Even then there were a few exceptions to the exceptions whom I befriended since that mass invitation session (there was one such exception only this last 7 days in fact).

Nowadays, apart from those certain extreme exceptions where I feel I have gained a good rapport with someone here and developed a certain special connection, I tend not to actively and boldly seek out new friends and new civilizations here. I certainly don't randomly befriend people for the sake of it. On the other hand, I invariably never refuse friend invitations from others. :)

I'd like to see the Friends facility be more useful than for privacy level reasons too.

Actually what would be interesting would be an Enemies list.

I treat the TrekBBS friends list like I do facebook. People add me, I approve them to avoid hurting feelings, and then I ignore the entire concept. I don't need a computer to tell me who my friends are, and find that people who add me on these things are only sometimes really my friends.

I am soooooo sorry, but I just can't help myself :(

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
your heart is true you're a pal and a confidant

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see, the biggest gift would be for me
and the card attached would say,
Thank you for being a friend

Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

When the thing was new, I friended some people, but it never went further than that. I don't really understand it. I mean if you wanted to directly talk to that person, than that's what PM is. I don't really have a reason to see if they are online, so what other reason is there to have a "friend list" here. With that being said, I accept most friend requests. ;)

I do not like to use these type of features, so for those of you who have sent me requests, or send me in the future & I dont accept, dont take it personally...

I have never asked anyone to be my friend here, but quite a few people have asked to be mine. I generally accept them, but that's pretty much the end of it. I'm not really sure if there is anything you can DO with your friends at all.

Seconded.

Not real down on the friends feature. I have some people I've been talking to for 8 years that I like to keep tabs on, but very few.

The real Bill Cosby hasn't said a single funny thing in 20 years, so, no, I will not be your friend.

Joe, pun here

I generally take the same approach to the Trek BBS friend feature as I do to the Facebook friend feature -- that is, I rarely (almost never) send friend requests to people. I'm a little weird (okay, really weird) in that I don't want to assume that just because I like someone, they like me too (yes, I have self-esteem issues... I'm trying to deal with them, honest).

This is why I let people send friend requests to me. And hey, I actually find it very flattering when someone does -- it lets me know that I've been noticed, and that someone has apparently liked something I've written. :) So far, I haven't refused any friend requests... I can't imagine I would, unless I got one from someone I can't stand (not that there are too many people like that on here anyway -- and I doubt such individuals would try to friend me). And I'm glad to have gotten them, because most of the people on my friends list are posters that I've grown to respect and appreciate.

Perhaps I should get more aggressive with the friend feature... there are a number of funny and friendly people on here who's posts I love reading -- people I would be pleased to call "friend". Maybe I'll just start friending people like mad... or not. ;) Although if any of these future additions to the friend feature appeal to me, I may just decide to expand my list...
