The new hand phasers suck, in fact...

IMO, The new hand phasers suck, in fact...

EVERY phaser since TOS has sucked, & with the arguable exception of Star Trek 3, SUCKED BADLY. TOS phasers were and are the most interestingly designed & executed sci-fi weapon EVER. I'm just glad that the camera didn't linger much on the newest bad redesign of an all-time classic. Is there a different opinion out there? And if so, how much gold-pressed latinum did it take to buy you off?
 :klingon:

Congratulations to you, and best of luck in all of your future endeavors. May your sons grow up to be princes and kings.

I think the new hand phasers not only look cool, I also think they sound cool. Love the clicks, love the red vs blue glows.

I like 'em a lot.

If you just edit the post to read "exception of STAR TREK V" then you have me in total agreement. Sticking a couple of water hose sprayers on a swivel in a pistol shape doesn't make for a phaser in my mind, not by a long shot.

I'm probably going to regret asking, but when has anyone done anything of the kind?

Got Chronoton particles ? (TM)

I didn't really like the phasers that much either.
They were WAAAY better than the phasers in TMP & STII, but still, why not use the ultimate design, especially when telling a past-times story?

I liked 'em. They looked enough like the TOS models to keep me happy.
From a distance, in the movie, they looked okay, but have you examined the (well-done) toys at Target or anything? They're all silver & weird up close.

First time I saw a pic of the two-headed phaser, that is what clicked for me visually ... two garden-variety water hose metal nozzles, back to back, inside a pistol grip. It actually looks like existing plumbing pieces to me (though for all I know they look better from a distance in the movie, since I'm assuming they don't have a "Q gives briefing' closeup of the workings.)

I like the new phasers. They kept the original overall shape and updated it. I like the metallic look. It is so much better than the DustBusters of 24th century Trek.

But that's not the point of them.

They looked and worked fine in the movie. That's the only important reason for their design or for that matter their existence.

The same is true for the design of the Enterprise, etc. The point is not whether it makes a nice desktop image on your computer. It's whether it looks good in the movie, in action - and it does.

As rayguns and other science fiction weapons go phasers have become kind of silly things anyway.

According to the original post, you're clearly on the take. ;)

I think it may have smething to do with me being a geek girl and not a geek guy.

Guy geeks seem to be much more worried about hardware. But I do think the phasers are way cool I want one, espeically if it glows. ;)

And all it took to buy me off was a personal visit and 2 exclsusive, private hours with Zach Quinto.

Agreed.

Clearly, you are no design geek, like me.:guffaw:

Yes, it's beautiful in the movie, and on my desk as a Playmates toy as well.

Phasers at dawn, then. I recommend you get your affairs in order.
