its a tricky one, the courts may not have found him guilty but plenty of people still think he is guilty (decent chance he is) im not sure I would want the US government to honour someone with such a cloud over him.

Decent change he ISN'T given the long list of problems in the cast, namely a lot of question on the credibility of those who made the claims against MJ for the prosecution.

He was found not guilty of the specific charges leveled against him in that instance. This does not mean that he was not a pedophile, just that those specific charges had insufficient evidence to find him guilty.
And for someone who's not guilty, he certainly paid a lot of money in the 1990s to a family whose son says to this day that he was molested.

Anyone who's gone through any major trial or situation like that will pay any amount of money to make it go away, true or not.
Also, I think it speaks more that the family shut-up after they got the money. I would think that if my child were molested by a man I'd want his ass in jail. Not have him pay me a small some of his bank account.
And if you READ ABOUT THE TRIAL you'll see a lot more questions on the accusers' side than Jackson's. (Not the least of which being inconsistant stories, and a history of lying under Oath.)
Not to mention Jackson had witnesses who said he never did anything wrong and that it is also likely the guy had a mental condition that made him "more like a child" than an adult.
So, yeah, I think it's fairly safe to say Michael Jackson was not a pedophille. Also keep in mind that under our current legal system the Burden of Proof is on the prosecution and the prosecution in this case couldn't meet that burden either in evidence or witnesses. That means in the eyes of the law Jackson is innocent and should not be held accountable, or scrutinized, over a crime the law says he has not comitted.

That's Peter King. He's my congressman and a douchebag of the highest order. I've no idea whether MJ was a pedophile or not but for the love of God don't let King influence you either way.

The bottom line is Jackson did settle the case of first abuse allegations for an amount over $20m and put himself in a position for future "false" allegations to be made. You can't ignore these things in light of a single criminal jury verdict.
Wealthy people do not have to settle against serious allegations, they can afford not to and have great incentive to fight very hard. Other celebrities have successfully battled false allegations of molestation.

With that out of the way, I'm pretty confident that Jackson was doing something with children that wasn't right. Various interviews with him over the years reinforced this likelihood.
As has already been said, OJ got off. Is he really innocent? Hell no. Thankfully he refused to keep his head down and got busted in another stupid incident.

I don't really know if he was a pedophile or not, but he sure seemed weird. Since there is this cloud over him, if Congress or somebody wanted to honor him, i would recommend they honor him in such a way that they honor his contributions to music and music videos and not him directly.

No way. There's always a risk to lose a case in court, even if you are really certain the law is on your side. If you can make it go away for an amount of money that doesn't hurt you, any reasonable person would do it.
It's not smart to stand on principle when you have everything to lose and little to gain.
That said, I have absolutely no clue how much merit the charges against Jackson have/had, although he was clearly a very disturbed man.
