What's with the new Harry Potter movie ads??

I pretty much agree with you. Harry is largely a mediocre wizard. A good flier but pretty ordinary when it comes to charms and potions. He is good at making friends and maintaining loyalties. A natural networker. I wish I had Harry's networking skills.

That said I think he does deserves credit when it comes to his dueling skills. He's smart. Not Hermione smart but certainly smart on his feet. He was good enough as a fifth year student to get his peers up to at least a proficient skill level in DADA to survive battles against fully trained Death Eaters. He's a talented fighter and a great teacher.

He never was and never will be a Dumbledore or even a Hermione Granger. But hey he's just as famous as the former and the latter will likely more famous as his friend than on her own accomplishments.

Actually that's too bad though since Hermione does go on to help reform the ministry.

He is the one with the charisma and leadership skills. That's why this book is unique - the hero actually isn't the toughest and strongest, but he is the one that holds things together.

I actually thought the trailer looked pretty good. The one I saw in theaters, anyway.

And I haven't even seen a HP movie past the first one. I'm also pretty close to the last person in the world who would have the patience for teen soap opera/Twilight nonsense.

I probably won't go see the new one, but I definitely didn't get that angsty vibe from the trailer.

Do the trailers matter? If you have seen the last 4-5 movies will you just skjip this one? All they need to do is "Harry Potter - THE DATE", and that would be fine.

Good point there. One of the reasons I really like the books.

I always thought Harry was a lot more powerful than people realized. Being able to cast a fully formed Patronus at the age he did was almost unheard of in the HPU. He is able to think quick on his feet and that helps him out in a duel more than just shear power.

All they have been showing is lame teen, soap opera 'shipping. I'm sure Half Blood Prince isn't about just that.

Hmm, I'm not sure, that book in particular is full of it. (All of which makes no sense in context of that aspect from the previous books, but thats a rant for another day...).

It will be interesting to see how it plays out on screen. I don't see Harry taking both Belllatrix and Greyback down in the film. Harry's good but he's not that good. Not yet

Harry simply isnt that good, period. It was summed up by Snape in a line from either book six or seven, where he tells Voldemort that Harry only survives the ordeals he has been through by "a combination of luck and more talented friends".

Might have something to do with Dumbledoofus leaving "the Chosen One" ignorant of his heritage, abused, and forgotten and THEN when he FINALLY re-enters the Wizarding World letting him flail about with NO extra training, NO real insight and NO support from the adults who have placed ALL their futures on his shoulders...

I've always felt that the three make up the classic literary device of brain, heart and soul.

Hermione is obviously the brains of the trio. The smartest and the toughest. Maybe she is also the "brawn" as well. :)

Ron is the heart. We are supposed to respond the easiest to him because he is the "everyman". We see ourselves in Ron. Even though Ron can have a hard time expressing himself, he still wears his emotions on his sleeves.

Harry is the soul. As others have mentioned, Harry isn't the smartest or the toughest, but he keeps everyone together. He is the moral compass of the three, and as much as they like each other, Ron and Hermione would be lost without the soul.

And just so I'm still on the topic of the OP, I like the trailers.:techman:

^I think you are completely correct. They work best as a team and if you notice in the books whenever they're not on the same page everything goes to shit. Harry could have never survived those seven years without his buddies. Hermione to without question help him prepare and Ron his loyal friend and occasional bodyguard who cheered him up when things were the darkest.

hey, I havent read the books but I like the films a lot, does anyone know if Tonks & Lupin will have any scenes in the 6th film? I think theyre pretty cool but were so underused in the 5th one...

Suffice it to say absent spoilers, T&L definitely get their moments. How well those translate to the screen, I also can't say.

Tonks makes a brief appearance in HBP.

The only scene Natalia has filmed for the movie, isn't actually in the book at all. She was only on set for the part where Death Eaters attack the Burrow at Christmas (where Harry & the Weasleys are present). She said that none of the angst of her character is there - indeed, she and Lupin are just suddenly a couple when they meet there.

In regards to Deathly Hallows, she said she was disappointed to see that they got married, due to her own personal preference towards the institution. So she doesn't want a big wedding scene (which some fans think may happen, given the exclusion of Bill Weasley & Fleur Delacour from Half-Blood Prince). But she did say that she would love to have to ride a broom with a pregnant belly.

Yeah, the ads for HBP have been pretty stupid IMHO. HBP wasn't one of my favorite books and nothing significant happens until the end, which is about the only good part of the book. I loved the last book in the series, however.

Strangely, I have yet to see a television promo for HBP, though I thought the theatrical trailers were pretty awesome, a nice mixture of the "romantic comedy" bits and the darker, heavier stuff. Looking forward to it!

thanks! oh well guess its better than nothing...

Ads for a movie this big tend to be tailored to the market, meaning they'll have different ads to air with different shows. If you don't want to see the ads with "teen soap opera 'shipping" stop watching teen soap operas. :p
