USS Constellation, NCC-1017

Ok, last update for a while, today..... but I got the pylons done!

I also tweaked those "Spine" things on the "Neck"...

At the very least, it suggests an old Hollywood showboat mentality of "mine's bigger than yours".

I still say MadMan1701A's Constellation looks head and shoulders better than the JJprise.

Y'know, looking at this pic, you can kind of understand why Abrams felt the need to fire Geoff Mandel.

When sitting next to the original ship, the new one looks ridiculous.

But wasn't it said above that the scale comparison was done with the original spec of the JJPrise being 366m?
I think it was unintentionally pretty close to that... I haven't made up an image yet where they were scaled at 300, and 366 respectively.

So, how did ya'll like my pylons?

For some reason, I'm attached to the straight, rectangular TOS-style pylons.

Yours are better-looking than the TMP-refit and the JJprise by far, though.

All I would say now is to make the panel lines more subtle. :) But I'm liking the overall shapes.

The JJprise next to the TOS E makes me like the JJprise even more. I don't like how they upscaled it. But in my mind they're the same ship, and they're the same size.

Designed, but scaled up to about 720 meters. MadMan's design looks pretty consistent at this scale.:techman:

To be fair, the effects shots don't really have her that big (else the Lexington would be over a kilometer, easily) ... it's just studio noise from the same people who fired individuals for setting a comparitive scale. The new 720m number is just penis-envy.

Who fired whom?

It's a half-joking quote from John Eaves' blog that JJ-haters have been shopping around for a couple of months.

Thanks. :)

Here's two more zoomed out shots...

I think, it's starting to look like a ship. :)

Love it so far... now that I think about it, it would be kinda nice to see a comparison between the Constellation and the Enterprise too. Have you got a sense of what the dimensions are, because I have a feeling this version of Constellation would come in at around 350 to 400 meters long.

You have a good chance to introduce some backstory too, if some problem with this Constellation class (or maybe it's unparalleled success) explains why the Constitution ends up being so huge.

Uh....no.

The FX absolutelyestablish that the new Big E is ~720m at a minimum.

She has to be that big in order to fit the shuttlebay into the secondary hull as shown.

As well as three entirely different interiors, one of which lined by cinder-blocks and brewery equipment in full view, and another one of which would be at least 3KM long. :) If you're trying to relate a 'reality concept' for Star Trek technology, you can't look at the VFX as anything more than a guide... this movie, particularly so.

That makes no sense... The Lexington is another Connie. Why would it be any larger?

So you want to throw out the VFX shots and the large engineering hull spaces, both of which indicate a large size for the ship, in favor of... what?... Your personal preference?

Well, the way this thing is scaled at the moment, it's almost just as long as Enterprise, and a little wider. I think I will make it a little smaller, though. If Enterprise is 725 meters, than what if I make this one 500 meters... that's pretty close to right in the middle of the New Enterprise, and the Original.

There's a VFX shot of the Lexington BEHIND the Enterprise where the Lexington saucer is LARGER than the whole of the Enterprise. Oddly, this shot was chosen as a promo screenie.

Design intent, in my case, which has her being just a little over the TMP version of the ship.
