Yes, funniest and most awesome lines. My signature is one example. When
Optimus Prime said "Give me your face" as he ripped the face off of The Fallen
I was just without words. That really was like the best one-liner in a movie. Ever. It was just awesome. And when I said funniest, that was also being applied to the most awesome lines I was talking about, I wasn't saying the entire movie was funny like a comedy or something. :)

And I really don't think my taste in movies really matters, but hey I'll humor you. Things like The Dark Knight, Repo!, The Prestige, Mr. Brooks, The Departed, Donnie Darko, The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, Iron Man, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the new Spiderman movies, The Simpsons Movie, Austin Powers, most of the James Bond movies, the Bourne Trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean... things like that.

    I mean come on,
that doesn't sound like a bad movie to me. I mean clearly not everyone likes the same movies but I personally thought RoTF was amazing.

This is the second time I've heard of Star Trek playing in a double feature with Transformers 2...

    Very smart.

So because a bunch of people turned up to see the film for the first time.... that means the film is good? :wtf:

Surely no one can be that dumb as to think that?

*cringe* it was godawful, embarassing, racist, and boring all in two and half over-long hours.

    Two words: Michael Bay

This guy is a hack who takes all the soul out of any film he touches and replaces it with loud explosions.

I have more fun at "smart" movies. Honestly.

I do genuinely enjoy many foreign, art, classic, independent films. I think my top film of all time is Renoir's Rules Of The Game. But there is plenty pretentious crapola around too. (Not even Von Trier is making movies according to the Dogma strictures anymore.) An artistic/artfully executed film is not by definition boring. And I completely understand that The 400 Blows or Solaris or The Draughtsman's Contract or even Blue Velvet aren't for everyone.

BUT...when it comes to popular cinema...I like my popcorn with a flavor, thank you very much.

I will take Inside Man over Bad Boys 2.

I will take State Of Play over Angels and Demons.

I will take Iron Man over Terminator Salvation.

I will take Star Trek 09 over Transformers 2.

I never played with Transformer toys. Plus, I like they way Abrams blew up stuff in Trek better. You couldn't pay me enough to see GI Joe.

EDIT - Oh, I just thought of a wonderful and entertaining movie using Dogma theories - 2008's Let The Right One In, one of the best vampire movies ever. Highly recommended.

The Twins are a play on Kevin Ferderline and the like not on black people. Get your facts right.

Why in the world would you try and compare the two? I mean really? Writers write crap and they write gold. These guys have done Lost and the have done Xena: Princess Warrior. So what. They wrote a great movie in Trek, give them a break and have a little faith.

Btw, everyone does know that T2 was also produced by Steven Spielberg? Soo... does that delegitmize his past and future work? Is Schindler's List suddenly crap? COME ON. Wow.

Also, in case you biz savy people haven't noticed, you play to your audience. If they want good writing you give them good writing. If they want SFX and stunts thats what you give. Obviously despite its lack of critical aclaim T2, its producers, Orci, Kurtzman, and Michael Bay will all laugh at you as they skip to the bank. Play to your audience.

Ok, first of all, a big opening night means it is highly anticipated. It's got to be highly anticipated for some reason. In this case, the first one was very popular. Now, no that does not mean that the movie is definitively good, but it's a very good sign.

Now now, surely we can leave unnecessary things like this out of the conversation.

    GREAT, your opinion. :techman:

    Exactly :)
This one is targeted at the same demographic as the first Transformers, which did extremely well in the demographic they targeted. Everyone I've talked to so far (save some people on here) have ALL thought the movie was amazing. All of my friends who have seen it so far, have loved it. I believe they have done a great job making a movie that is going to be very well liked by the audience that they intended.

No it is not a very good sign that the movie is good. It means that the movie is highly anticipated. Nothing to do with the quality of the movie. How can people know it's good and decide to turn up if they haven't even seen it yet! And don't point me in the direction of reviews because they've been mostly slating the film. And rightly so.

A big opening weekend means the film is popular, it is NOT in any way a reflection of it's quality, or lack thereof.

REPEAT viewings mean the moviegoers liked it. Not the opening weekend when no one has seen it.

Then you have immature friends who laugh at fart jokes, robots humping girls legs and robot balls.

So he and his friends are young men, then? Or were you attending Bergman retrospectives and reading Camus at the age of 19 for amusement? It may not be my cup of tea (I'm in my forties, not my late teens, early twenties). It may not even be "good cinema" by the standards used to measure such a thing (inexact as they may be). But if the target audience enjoys it, then it will largely have met its goals. What really separates, in my opinion, "good cinema" (or "good art" in general) is an ability to appeal to those outside the "target audience". However, if all it does is satisfy its target audience, it is not a complete failure (even if it may not be critically praiseworthy).

And why the heck does it need "repeat business" when the entire world is going to see it right now?

By the way, it'll likely get that repeat business, since the people who saw the movie appear largely to have liked it.

    Critics be damned... :(

Transformers 2 was awful. I can't turn my brain off like some people though. It would be a lot better without the human characters.

Well I'm certainly sorry they didn't meet your lofty expectations. I'm sure they will ask your input for the next film, just to appease you.

If you can't see the major, MAJOR differences between these films, then I guess there is nothing else to talk about.

Every time someone writes a racist sterotype they use the lame excuse they 'are making fun of (some white guy)' not blacks.

In other words if some white guy acts that way he's a lame jerk and it's okay to mock him. But then who is the 'lame white guy mimicing? He's obviously mimicing blacks. So in reality it is just a back-door way of mocking black hip-hop culture.

The guys doing the voices of the 'hip-hop' robots were BLACK so they were clearly NOT mocking Federline. They clearly didn't hire two black guys to mock Federline. It was said they ad-libbed a lot of the dialogue. THEY thought it was funny.

The bigger problem is our people in our socitety not having the guts to say they despise black hip-hop culture (I do)
They think it's ignorant and uncilivized but they can only mock it when moronic whites do the same thing.

Oh and the two franchises are totally different and the writers know that. The Trek sequel won't be anything like Transformers.

A dig at black folks or not...they're just monstrously lazy and stupid characters.
