Facts About the USS Kelvin

The USS Kelvin had 800 crew members while TOS Enterprise had 400. That means Kelvin can take on two Enterprises.

I think when Pike used the number 800 he may have been referring to the number of surviving crew members and the children who were born to them in the intervening 20 something years. Hence, George Sr. did save 800 lives, sort of.

Even at that, there was a lot of hobble-do-ga-ga going on.

The Kelvin is so badass even Robau has to wear insulated skivvies in order to sit in the captain's chair.

The Kelvin is so badass that it's captain's chair is the only to ever touch Robau's ass and live.

I didn't care for the Kelvin that much. The shuttlebay on top just seemed out of place. I'd like to see a photoshopped version with the nacelle on top and shuttlebay on bottom.

I preferred to think the Kelvin was going to or from some sort of colony support or rescue mission, and 500-odd of those people were passengers or refugees or whatever.

Of course the biggest thing I don't like about the USS Kelvin is the fact that it existed before the Nero's time-travel escapade, and yet despite this it still was much larger than the Constitution-class (I don't know if it's size was specified, but it looked bigger, especially when you look at the shuttlebay and had a crew of eight hundred) which was a more advanced design (wasn't even built yet) which was supposed to have been the largest ship of the era at 289 meters.
Most advanced and largest are not necessarily synonymous. (Hello, Defiant-class!) Besides, there's an argument to be made that by getting by with half the crew in (what I'm assuming is) a similarly-sized hull, the Connies were more advanced.

The Kelvin is so badass, she continues firing her weapons even though the chief engineer reports them as 'down'.

Sounds OK, but its a lot of people to cram into the shuttles.

I think we're following our other "Facts of..." series, where it isn't so inclined to get into the Franz Joseph side of things, but to more illuminate the lighter aspects of the characters/ships we love so dearly from this movie.
