Last week I was doing some cleaning and heard something that sounded like barking/whimpering coming from outside. I looked out on the porch, and here was this little puppy with no collar, no tag, nothing. I took her around to a few houses up and down the street to try to find out who she belonged to with no success. We took her to the vet, got her de-wormed, treated for fleas, and just generally examined. My wife printed up a bunch of flyers, which I distributed all over the neighborhood. Still, no luck. So we started emailing everybody we knew asking if anybody wanted a dog, and a friend of one of the people we emailed works for a rescue, one of the ones that adopts dogs and cats out of petsmart. She said she'd take her. Now, we'd have kept her, but she was too rough for our pug and our two cats. She's a puppy, so she liked to frolic and play and jump and bite playfully and paw at everything, and with the pug's big buggy eyes, it was too dangerous. Don't get me wrong, if we hadn't found a good place for her, we'd have kept her and just made it work somehow, but this seemed like a good opportunity. So the other day we met up with the vice-president of this rescue(It's a major rescue operation that covers several states)and gave her the dog. We were very sad to have left her, hoping we'd done the right thing. Hours after we left, though, a family with three kids who'd just lost their lab to old age came in and saw her, and fell in love. They filled out the adoption paperwork, and after she gets spayed and gets her shots, she's going to her new home! I'm so happy!
She's a sweet girl, and very, very smart, and she'll make a GREAT dog for this family!
