Size Of The New Enterprise (large images)

Has anyone thought of finding out how big the “industrial location” was that was used for the brewery (apologies if that's already come up)? If anyone could find floorplans or something that would probably give us a fairly definitive size of the engineering hull, and would no doubt give us a size inconsistent with either the bridge or the shuttlebay ;-)
The plant is gigantic, but the size of the space where the filming was done?

Exactly. They are only bound to the longest linear distance we can see on screen, and from what I recall that is far less than any of the numbers being bandied about here.

Just noticed this (has anyone else): The docking ports on the Kelvin look to be of almost identical design and size. Taking that reference, looks to me that the NuEnterprise would be significantly smaller than the 2,357ft.

I'm still estimating around 1,500ft (with a +/-50ft tolerance)

Not sure if this was brought up anywhere else in the thread (I've not read thru the whole thing), but according to this article, it's 2357ft according to ILM. That's a little over 718m.

It still doesn't seem right considering the size of the airlocks. If someone could just take the E-A and E-JJ and scale them so that the airlocks are the same size, that should give a fairly accurate indication.

That article has been linked in this thread before, and the ILM figures for the Enterprise and Narada have been given elsewhere prevoiusly. It remains to be seen whether these match the "official" dimensions, but some here are skeptical, to say the least.

I'd venture a guess of about forty meters, this being in that oft-mentioned scene where Kirk and Scotty get picked up by "Cupcake". We don't really know where this scene is, but as I've said before, that entire set could easily fit inside the cargo bay of the TMP Enterprise.

Enterprise doesn't have the same docking port design as the Kelvin OR the TMP ship. They are actually more reminiscent of the ports on NX-01, with an outer docking ring somewhat wider than the actual hatch.

Ehhh.... I don't get it - how exactly is the flight path blocked?
(The dark strip in the center that looks like a girder is just an extension of the dark bay "mid-strip" that goes all the way out to the edge - it just looks darker further in)

Has nitpicking really devolved to this level? :vulcan: Nitpick about stuff that doesn't make sense... not this. Idiots. :guffaw:

Exactly.
There is nothing at all blocking the flight path of the shuttles.

Yeah, but further down somebody says that the girders and the upper row of shuttles are gone when Pike flies out. Gotta go see, if that's true it's a real gaff... which we can use to beat ILM over the head until we get the length we want! :bolian:

Wouldn't the substructure for the nacelle-pylon attachment to the secondary hull have to be right about where those girders are? Might the shuttle parking (especially the upper level) be making secondary use of structural members?

IMO,it makes sense.

After my third viewing, the nuEnterprise would have to be larger. When Kirk looks at the Enterprise from Iowa ,it makes more sense proportionally that he's looking at a 700 meter ship vs the old TOS size Enterprise.

As well-this is an 'Alternate' universe. What rules that dictated the Enterprise's dimensions "back home" so to speak,do not apply here .I'm surprised no one brought up the metropolis that replaced 'old' spacedock-the new one makes the 700 meter enterprise look like a matchbox toy, which would place the nuSpacedock complex @ truly gargantuan proportions.Ditto the Narada, which as a mining ship pre-modification it made sense for it to be as large as it is,carrying ore and whatnot.

I am sooo confused by the size. When I first saw it , I thought it was smaller than the original enterprise. Then I saw the shuttle bay and was starting to blow circuits. I'm going to watch it on Imax and see if I can blow a few more circuits. Shuttle bay aside I think it looks smaller. Hopefully this will be clarified in future movies or series.

Silversmok3, You are correct however, the new timeline would mean things could be different. Yes that space dock was most enormuos! I'll have to ponder this more. This new timeline thing is great though! They can do so much now! As a 35 year veiwer of star trek, I'm ok with the changes.

It's all there. The camera angle just doesn't let us have a good look.

I was just referring the comparison between the Kelvin and NuEnterprise docking ports diameter.

Even though there is a 20/25 year gap between the two ships, from a logical engineering standpoint, there would be some standardization carryover between the two. Whatever craft would use those ports, would most likely still be in use. Military does this type of standardization all the time.

I just can't see somewhere along the line someone says "Hey, lets take the 7ft docking ports and supersize it up to 14/15ft, just for grins & giggles"

I guess we may have to just wait until the Haynes Enterprise Manual comes out next year. They could be having similar discussions that we are, and may be coming up with a different size as well. Seems to me that with this late/delayed publication date (2010) there may have been some internal conflicts/confusion as to the size, and it's just now being ironed out. From a marketing standpoint, it should have been out just after the release of the movie (or at least with the DVD in November).

The ship was designed with features for one size and during production somebody decided to super size it without editing the esisting features.
