Bones - Season One

Starbreaker

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Having seen an episode or two of Bones over the years and finding it somewhat enjoyable, I sat down with the first season over the week. After a pilot that's not very good and filled with unlikable characters, a second episode that's even worse follows. After that, it's 20 episodes of top notch television. I've grown to like all the characters and I find the cases much more interesting than any CSI show right now. And get this... the one case per episode thing is much, much easier to follow that having two or three convoluted cases that try to be wrapped up in 45 minutes.

I'm about to go get season two so I can have something to watch while I'm trying to get over this cold. I only hope subsequent episodes live up to my expectations of the show now.

Each season is a step down, but still fun, and better than most TV.

Then recently they dropped murder arcs, and the arcs they had were really good and ended badly.

The show is good, but after the 6th season (It's been picked up for a fifth in the fall and one after that) it needs to end.

I don't think it needs to be end now. I love that show, period.

I watched the first season and wasn't particularly impressed. I found it light, sometimes mildly amusing but never all that engrossing. None of the characters did much for me either.

I started watching Bones after I canvassed opinion here and folks recommended it. I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons. Season three was hit and miss but largely miss for me (probably due in part to the writers' strike). I have found season four to be very, very poor. Brennan is driving me up the wall at the moment. I'm getting to the stage where I loathe her. I probably won't watch more. Shame, really, since I really like some of the other characters and their interactions.

Did I say I wanted it to end now? No. I said I wanted it to end in 2011!

I was subjected to much of the first season and hated every minute of it.

There is a scene in the pilot in which the Angel guy explains why he's a cop. Says something to the effect of "When I was a sniper, in the Army, I killed a lot of people. I swore to myself that I'd stick with this job until I've saved just as many"

My wife and I always reference that line whenever we see horribly overdone angst on TV or in a movie.

"When I was a sniper, in the army..." :guffaw:

I've seen most of the first season and enjoyed it. A couple of the fourth season and they were OK, but kind of samey.

To each their own. While sometimes lacking in brilliance, the writing often manages clever, which makes it better than 95% of the fiction on TV and 100% better than all of the reality shows.

I also watched Season 1 & 2 on DVD to "catch up" after having started watching the show (and getting hooked) in Season 3. Really enjoy it.

It's a shame that more Bones novels weren't written (based on the TV series, as opposed to Kathy Reichs' novels). To my knowledge, the only one out there is Buried Deep by Max Allan Collins, which I enjoyed a lot.

^ I didn't know that there were any books based on the show (as opposed to the original novels). Thanks for the heads-up, I'm going to check it out.

I thought the pilot was terrible, but the episodes I've seen since have been enjoyable. Nothing that's grabbed me enough to make me want to watch it regularly, but it's not something I turn off if it's on the television.
