All the Sehlats are Dead!

So.. all the sehlats are dead. How many do you think there would be offworld? As they are (possibly) an iconic animal to the Vulcans I wonder if that would make them more likely to share them with zoos/wildlife parks on other worlds or less. Vulcan's isolationist tendencies and respect for all life makes me think they would not have been inclined to send sehlats offworld for enjoyment and study by non-Vulcans.

There could well be no sehlats left at all. I would hope a few did still exist and a breeding/cloning program could be set in motion. No doubt a sample of their DNA exists elsewhere, in some zoological library, and they can eventually be recreated.

"Spock, why did you let us diiieee?"

i heard sehlats are good eating

Maybe Sisko's can put that on their rare endangered delicacy menu.

Rather than spend time trying to replenish animal species, I'd think the logical thing would be to focus all attention on the now-endangered sentient species.

I would imagine that "preserving the legacy of Vulcan" would involve attempting to recreate everything about the planet. After all, cultures are almost always deeply intertwined with their ecological and geographical surroundings.

They might have animal and plant genomes stored off-world, if they're smart. If they didn't... every other planet in the galaxy is going to sit up and say "Holy shit, what if that happened to us?" and start exporting comprehensive gene banks to depositories or each other as backup. In fact, you might even see a colonial renaissance as everyone starts contemplating the risks of keeping all of their civilization eggs in one planetary basket... [/wild plot speculation]

They don't have to do it themselves. I am sure another Federation world could take up the project and when the numbers were sufficient introduce them to the colony world.

This is a very sad thought. Even thinking of the Vulcan landscape being gone. Mount Selaya for God's sake! Boo! I just watched Star Trek III the other day. How will they get rid of Spock's katra from McCoy's body now!!!

I guess Spock won't die in this timeline due to Khan...

Obviously there are some sehlats in an off planet location. That's the only thought that's keeping me from weeping.

Neeka Keet, I love your avatar. Spock's scenes on the Jellyfish are some of my favorites.

Im sure someone has a Sehlat on another planet.

Maybe Admiral Archer cross bred one with his Beagle at one point.

Seigfried and Roy clones are also now touring in the 23rd century if i remember, lets hope the Sehlat they have is a bit more, shall we say, human freindly.

They hailed the planet to evacuate and Vulcan had to have some of their own ships or of some kind that could leave. My guess is that at least a few hundred if not a few thousand left the planet before it was destroyed and some may have taken their pets with them. Spock did say that he estimated that about 10,000 Vulcans were left but that's just an estimate
