Suggestion for sequel

Feofilakt

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Despite whatever villain the sequel has, I honestly think there should be some development on the part of Kirk, specifically him getting his ass handed to him and knocked down a few notches. There is a difference between confidence and arrogance, and I think this Kirk has crossed the line, something which was not quite resolved in this film. In order for his character to develop true confidence in a noble sense, he has to be broken down by the villain in as severe a way as possible, thus allowing him and perhaps Spock to build him back up again into a better man.

So, what do you think? Agree/disagree?

I actually like this idea. If we want him to get to the confident, cunning Captain of TOS I think he needs to go through some serious strife. In particular, he needs a good existential meltdown for him to totally reevaluate his life.

I disagree, what I like about this Kirk is the fact no matter what shit you throw at him, how badly you kick the shit out of him he takes it and is happy to come back for more.
It's not arrogance, it's being rough and ready and being used to what life throws at you and accepting it.
He no doubt knew he'd never win that bar fight and yet still stood up for himself and was willing to take a pounding so long as in the end he knew he'd stood his ground and could be proud of the fact he did.

But this would only reinforce that characteristic. He was broken down, beaten, and the villain thinks he is done for when he merely jumps back and keeps on going, perhaps learning something in the process. I suppose I want to see a more measured confidence than the swagger he demonstrated in the movie, a more mature kind of confidence.

Maybe it's time to bring in Gary Mitchell.

Agreed.

Actually, I really wish they had thought to include Gary Mitchell this time around. Would have made more of an impact when he goes all super-esper godlike on Kirk.

As to the original point, there's a long tradition of heroes having early success in the first chapter of a series, then finding out things are tougher than they expected in the second or third volume. It would be interesting, and would show that they weren't being flip with the insta-promotion.

I think Kirk got beat up enough times in this move as it is, especially on the second viewing. It just seemed like too much.

I think a sequel definitely needs more Scotty.

I do like the "Javier Bardem as Kahn" suggestion that's been thrown around. I also kind of want to see something..... different.

I never watched TOS growing up (watched a few season one episodes on netflix) I wonder if the Tholians could be given the movie treatment. If done properly, i think it could work. It certainly wouldn't be a "funny forehead alien adversary"

1) A rogue sattellite
2) Khan
3) Klingons
4) A big badass probe
5) A Vulcan with Emotions (hahahahaha)
6) Ummmm Klingons
7) Again with the Klingons (Mr Scott i need full power)
8)THE BORG YEAH!!!!
9) The Sona' (gee that was exciting)
10) A human Romulan Picard (hello)
11) More Romulans

Now given this is an alternate timeline like has been thrown around since the second the movie came out, i see no problem with bringing a TNG baddie forward. Why not even have Q as the mastermind behind it all!

Give us your thoughts, and potential TNG foes.

End Transmission

I am actually all for a Gorn Empire as portrayed in SFCII, so long as the Federation didn't go all Starship Troopers genocidal on them and the Gorn fired the first shot.

Alternatively a civil war between the inevitable militants in the Federation that would pop up as a result of the SNAFU in this movie and the noble stalwarts of the Federation would be really cool and a way to inject moral ambiguity into the story while allowing the series and Federation itself to be as they should.

I think they should make Spock into a Vulcan, since there was little trace of it in the movie. Since when do Vulcans kiss in public? How about making Kahn into Kirk's best friend since they just love revenge?

Lol. What would people do if in the last movie they reveal "OH, THIS IS THE MIRRORVERSE, BTW" and Spock turns to face the camera and has a goatee. That would be rofl inducing.
