JJ Abrams considering Khan in next movie?

Khan wouldn't be dumb, he is the most famous Treki villain outside of the Borg.

Okay, I've been very vocal about how much I dislike Khan as a villain, I really have. He's a dumbass, a total fucking moron. I don't like him, and that's it.

TWoK is okay, but it isn't my favourite Trek film by a long shot.

I'd prefer them doing something completely new. However, if that were the case, I'd give it a chance and watch it anyway. I mean I gave Nemesis a fair chance, too.... and I have much more trust in JJ and company, now that XI turned out to be so cool.

I'll pass on Khan. Sure, I enjoyed the Wrath of Khan, but I never had the zeal for the flick like many others. I'd prefer the writers to surprise us with someone or something original, with shades of villainy if the script calls for it. It is a new alternate reality, after all.

Depending on who plays Khan, it could work really well.

Problem is Khan=Montalban. If somebody new is going to do him, they've got to be equal to Montalban.

If they do this (and I hope they dont) perhaps they can pick up a big name Bollywood actor for Khan. tap into the South Asia market a little bit.
Well, if our suspicions are true
I hear that Naveen Andrews could soon be available.
Then again, several people here have mentioned him in passing too. :bolian:

Abrams would be stupid to ignore one of Trek's most iconic villains, maybe THE iconic villain, just because it's been done twice in the last 4 years.

That's hardly overused.

does the timeline even work for when kirk strands him?

It's an alternate universe, so that doesn't matter.

I think a Khan movie would really be more Space Seed than TWOK anyway. So we could SEE Kirk stranding him.

And Chekov would really be on the ship this time ;)

its just not gonna happen.thats its own story.they cant just re-do the same story.or even a prequel to how kirk stranded him.no way.

It'd be rehashing an old villain in a bad way. He never attempted to take over the ship and was never exiled, so we lose that dynamic.

Please, for the sake of the next movie and my small hope for it: Make a new villain that is at least a little sympathetic.

That's like saying Joker is a rehash.

Khan is not as pivotal to Trek as the Joker is to Batman.

The Khan movie was good, but I don't think its a good idea to bring Khan back just for the sake of it. I am always open to good stories, but I don't think its a cool idea to bring Khan back. I like the idea of genetically enhanced humans, eugenics war, perfect society and the like. But wonder what good story they could come with. I wish the next movie will tap a little more into the sci-fi lore and not only be about cardboard villains vs the Enterprise.

nuKirk wouldn't let him get away with all the shit he's done, but would put him to trial instead. Then, he would probably be locked away forever, and ST II would never happen. The whole thing is a huge plothole and never made sense to begin with.

Abrams is not dumb, he's not going to rehash an old, flawed plot of a however well-loved film that's going to alienate both fans and the general audiences. I don't believe so, anyway.

If he were to use the character, there'd be no re-make. I don't think so, and I sure as hell don't want it.

Oh FFS. Not another "the crew vs. an eeevil eeeeeevil baddie from another time". :scream:

How can you do this? Kirk hasn't even met Khan yet! Its just a stupid idea that makes no sense.
We do need a stonger villain for the next film however instead of a Shinzon rip off.

This is an alternate timeline, he could just meet him earlier...

I think it could work, but to keep it from feeling like too much of a rehash i think they should have two main villains, one of them being new, and a completely new story, only keeping Khans origins roughly the same.

I hope they dont turn Khan into a stereotypical eviiiiiillll bad guy, Khan always came across as a smooth criminal with a way with words.

I hope not. Acknowledging Khan would also be acknowledging the Eugenics Wars of the late 1990s - which didn't happen.

While JJ doesn't need to retcon it, he doesn't need to mention it.

Khan is not as pivotal to Trek as the Joker is to Batman.

I guess that's a matter of opinion.

He was the only villain from the TV show to be the focus of a movie.

That seems to make him pretty pivotal.

I'd consider Joker to be the arch-nemesis of Batman, just like Lex Luthor is the arch-foil of Superman, or the Green Goblin the arch-rival of Spiderman, and so forth. I view Khan as one of many incidental challenges to the Star Trek crew, but not the pivotal go-to trouble-maker.

If anyone, I'd say the Klingons prove to be the major recurring adversary of the Star Trek crew, from "Broken Bow" to "the Trouble with Tribbles." Of course, I have yet to see any enjoyable Star Trek movie that elicits the intense old-school rivalry between the Star Trek crew and the Klingons of the original tv series. Even Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has made good use of Klingon characters from the original series, like in the acclaimed episode "Blood Oath," featuring Kor, Kang, and Koloth.
