JJ Abrams considering Khan in next movie?

Well, I've been a Khan naysayer, but if Orci and Kurtzman are as serious as they say they are:
"I'm already going back and reading some of the books I've missed," he said of "Trek" tales and fan-fiction that have been written in past years, which could be reinterpreted for their new universe. "I'm trying to read every 'Star Trek' book I can get my hands on. We did that a lot for the first movie. ... I'm starting to re-immerse myself again in what's come before."

I'd trust that they'd find an OK way to do Khan. I still hope it's not in the next film.

I read something and I agree with it that Abrams is probably thinking of killing off one of the main characters. No way to know what he's actually thinking, but just to reinforce that it is an alternate time line and things can turn out different, someone's going to be killed off, and I'd put my money on Chekov.

While I think they could do an awesome job casting Khan, I don't think they're just going to do nothing with all that planet Vulcan-killing drama they created.

"I never forget a face... I should have killed you the first time!"

Hmmm... given the Romulan nature of the first adversary of the new NCC-1701, perhaps an update of "Balance of Terror" might work as a sequel?

A ship of Romulan design wiping our the planet Vulcan and a Federation task force...
...would certainly have political ramifications in this brave new universe.

With Ben Cross as the Rommie commander!

Personally, I think bringing back Khan would be a great idea. Establish him as "Kirk's arch enemy", but don't kill him off at the end but leave him marooned like in TOS for future use.
Khan is the ideal villain for a "modern" trek movie
- has superhuman powers
- comes "out of nowhere", but still has a backstory
- a backstory that is tied to our era
- evil genius with a cause

JJ should totally reimagine Khan, the Botany Bay, the Eugenics Wars and stuff. Time to make clear this is a full reboot.

Its ongoing mission... to re-explore worlds visited in older movies... to boldly go where previous Treks have gone before!

I want to see the Gorns. The Star Trek movie never really had an "Alien" looking antagonistic race for the Enterprise crew.

Kahn would be a bit on the dumb side :(

Hopefully he isn't serious.
I would agree that Khan is probably not a good idea for a next movie (or any movie, for that matter. Khan has been done, and doesn't need more doing.) The writers won't even have begun writing the next script yet, and what we don't see is the question which prompted the response quoted. I'd think that the Shatner thing is more of the same -- J.J. just vamping on whatever questions the interviewer raised -- because I can't seriously see Shatner having a major part to play in a sequel to the current movie.

Some people here are talking about ideas for Khan sequels, just in case, though.

That makes sense to me - it's so early, I doubt they have any real plans but Abrams knows we like to discuss everything. So he's just playing with all the questions he gets asked to distract us.

I agree, the Gorn or the Tholians would be cool. The Gorn could be made to look pretty badass with movie budget CGI if we moved *slightly* away from them just being overgrown lizards. Likewise the Tholians have the potential to be a pretty scary foe if done correctly.

Perhaps one of these races in conjunction with Khan, two seperate bad guys in one film?

I get a feeling a Khan idea just won't work and will rub fans the wrong way.:(

They won't do that. Orci and Kurtzman are too invested in tying this to existing continuity.

Well I hope they realize most Fans, and certainly the new Fans, will give a shit. Not making this into a full reboot would be such a wasted opportunity.

Nobody's going to be perfectly happy, but I think it's a good compromise.

I would like to see a sequel made with the level of creativity and inventiveness that I've come to expect of Hollywood sequels.

For example, we could have William Shatner as 'Kirk Prime' coming back in a ship that looks like a jellyfish, propelled through a black hole via the use of blue matter in order to set right the damage that has been done by a rogue Klingon which has caused the destruction of Andoria.

Shatner Kirk named his own price, and look where he ended up.
