Star Trek - $7.50 million on Monday

Re: Star Trek - $7.64 million on Monday

Nobody's denying anything, dude. Why don't you show us some links? And while you're at it, why don't you give us some links to some projected returns and actual returns? And while you're at it, why don't you do some research into DVDs, merchandising, tie-ins, and promotional fees? And then why don't you put it into a handy spreadsheet with some other movies' statistics for comparative analysis? Maybe put in successful and unsuccessful film performance one week, one month, and six months out.

After you do all that, why don't you present your work to Paramount's marketing department so they can marvel at your genius?

Seconded. Odo's_Bucket, if you have hard data, please present it, otherwise you are wandering in the land of supposition.

Odo's Bucket clearly has zero understanding of how movies make money and how Hollywood works, so I would say ignoring them for now is the best idea.

Re: Star Trek - $7.64 million on Monday

It cost 160 million to produce and God knows what to advertise. Some estimate that the advertising cost up to 100 million. It's only made 86 million of that back. Without counting for advertising, it's still 74 million dollars in debt. Add the unconfirmed estimate for the advertising and it's 174 million dollars in debt, which is more that the original production cost. Flop. Big fat flop.

As opposed to a DS9 movie which would have brought in a total of $36.00 for the opening weekend, eh?

(Advertising budget is not counted in these numbers. It's a COB).

Could you please explain to me what the hell DS9 has to do with this?

I'm confused.

There was never even any TALK of a DS9 movie, let alone any 'advertising budget' developed.

Unless...

oh...

*I* get it!!! You're trying to toll him because he's presumably a DS9 fan. NOT because of anything he's saying about this movie or it's returns. :p

Tell you what? How about you stay OT and knock off the trolling. You want to talk about the returns on this movie, fine. But ridiculous conjecture about something that was never going to happen to begin with, just to piss someone off, with is trolling.

Next time it will be a warning.

Odo's Bucket - this is a non-starter.

Linking to a thread that is about a billion pages long and expecting people to go and find your backup THERE for a remark made HERE is absurd.

Please post your backup for remarks made HERE in HERE.

Otherwise, don't post assertions that we all know would be difficult, at best, to prove.

Playing that game not only rightfully pisses off other posters, it pisses off certain moderators who now have to go and wade through a billion pages, just to see if you posted anything even remotely related in some other thread.

Which, given that we have about 3 pages of threads posted in during the last few hours, I can't do.

So post your backup WITH your assertions....or risk a trolling warning.

Thanks.

the word of mouth is spreading plus its one of those movies you want to see again- very few movies are like that.

They've already confirmed a sequel. I can not get my head around how someone can think its a flop after they've confirmed a sequel, and there will be even more buzz around the next Trek film.

That's great news. I guess the sequel will be moved to the front burners now. I will be shocked if we are not talking about Star Trek 12 in 2 years.

The way I see it, I have a feeling that Paramount is going to start staggering Trek and Transformers in alternate summers, and fill the rest in with their two planned Marvel films.

With Trek coming first, I hope... :D

Best to not feed the trolls.

Proof that the production cost was 160 million.

Me, my gf and my brother saw it yesterday in IMax

the two of us will probably go back and see it on the regular screen too

Re: Star Trek - $7.64 million on Monday

Out of date, and not firm. "Expected to reach $160 million", particularly way early in the creation of the movie, is different than, "The movie ended up costing $160million."
Inconclusive and non-specific. Every single one says "$150-160 million". Besides, what difference is $10million really going to make? If Star Trek does well on a $150million budget, then it will probably do just fine on $160million.

You know, of course, that the actual final production budget of this film hasn't been made available? This is why sites like "Box Office Mojo" list it as "N/A." All of this is speculation, and there are professional observers who guess the real cost at quite a bit less than the outlying 150 million dollar figure.

A lot of interesting reading, BTW, at Jay Epstein's site:
