The emotion of Kirks Death/Birth

LOTS of tears were flowing yesterday when I seen it. I got misty eyed and so did my wife who is not even a trek follower. I looked around and there were eyes being wiped and tissues breaking out all over the place. The music added to the emotion, I ordered the soundtrack today.

It makes up for Generations and then some! One of the best scenes in star trek ever. Its so suitable for Kirk, here is someone who is going to hugely influence the Federation and go down in legend, its only suitable that his birth should be incredibly epic.

Actor who played George Kirk was very good.

I was surprised to find out who he was - the girl I went with yesterday turned to me as soon as he appeared on screen to point out he was in Australian soap Home & Away :wtf:

But yeah - I loved the opening sequence and when speaking about the film told people that would sell it for them. The moment when George hears his baby cry brought a tear from my anti-Trek companion yesterday.

^ ^ Got to be the best recruiting pitch ever.

Much better than the one I got, "We're like the Borg." I was not impressed

My gawd, what kind of work did you apply for?

Working in Healthcare with the British Army. I could see he was trying to use a hive mind/working as a team analogy, but all my inner geek could think was "...he wants me to assimilate people?"

Well, that was a close one; at least he didn't mean they intended to go into fluidic space and start a war with Species 8472.

Yes-very emotional scene. I couldn't help but think that it would have really been nice to see more of Kirk's father. Great character as presented in the film.

There was just something nice about the score during the wide shot of the scene as the shuttles are fleeing, the Romulan ship is dead in space against the light of the star, we then fade to the Star Trek chevron and the movie's theme.

(I just wish we had the Trek theme and title sequence, but I guess that'll be more appropriate in the next movie with the establishment of the characters.)

I loved this scene. In fact, I was really surprised to find myself choking back tears, not 15 minutes into the movie! That guy who played George Kirk was great...and looked enough line Pine to be really believable in that regard also.

That was a very moving scene. What a way to start a movie!

The birth scene was very well and sweetly done, ehanced by Jennifer Morisson's wonderful legs.

She does have nice legs.

Seeing it a second time, I can say the scene was just as effective. Great musical score and a terrific performance by the guy who played Kirk's dad. I can't remember his name but it says a lot about his performance that he made the audience care about his fate with barely ten minutes of screentime.

There is a special theme for the shuttle scene; I can hear it on the soundtrack and picture it. Kind of like mice scampering away. It was one of my favorite scenes.

He also had quite a bit of that "dumb simple midwesterner" tone to his voice.

:)

Seen the movie twice now.

Damn, that opening sequence hit me hard both times. Such a beautiful score and wonderful performances from the actors playing George and Winona Kirk.

I could literally feel the hairs sticking out the back of my neck as Kirk was born. I had goosebumps.

That entire sequence was wonderful, yet heartbreaking at the same time.

Anyone else get that feeling?
Between the music and the poignancy, I had tears streaming down my face!

I can usually recognize contrived emotional manipulations, but I got choked up during this scene. It was a well-directed and acted scene...but given added emotional impact due to that fact that this was Kirk's birth.

And yeah, I noticed Jennifer's legs too! Smokin...:-)

Not only did he have a strong resemblence to Chris Pine but did anyone else think that George Kirk looked like Trip Tucker?

I cried too. I rarely cry at movies/tv. The opening scene... it was perfect though...

I kept thinking about that scene oday. It was one of the strongest moments of the film for me, and it signaled so very clearly, this is not going to be the remote, antiseptic, "highly evolved" Star Trek of old.
