Surprising Star Trek fan opinions

It always surprises me how some don't see just how terrible ENT was. The theme song, the blue porn room, the giant screwing with the setting (Vulcans), the incrdibly bad dialog, and Doctor ass head from Galaxy Quest. I could go on.

But hey, some people liked it. No accounting for taste. :)

Wow, I'm surprised to see others agree! :p

I wanted to like the entirety of ENT, I really did, but until Season 4, they always took the very easy way out. It was quite annoying and exasperating to me. Fortunately, Season 4 also made me really love the series, and I was saddened to see it catch it's second wind only to be knocked down before the finish line. Of course, TATV is the biggest piece of dreck this side of the Neutral Zone, but the show was severely crippled before then, too.

Wait, where on the ship was the decon chamber located in the first place? Location for such a room would be of the utmost importance, sure, and should logically be the only main room attached to the shuttle bay. But if the room was fairly deep inside the NX-01, then ick, that's one heck of a define flaw. Suddenly the bowling alley on the 1701 doesn't seem like a bad idea :)

Haven't seen this mentioned yet:

I was surprised so many people disliked Troi. I always enjoyed her on TNG, nowhere near my favorite, but I certainly liked her character.

Enterprise, when it first aired, I didn't get into it. Now that I've been able to watch the series in its entirety, and particularly in HD (on HD-net), I really enjoyed the series. They corrected the Vulcan complaints in season 4 in an interesting way that showed nice continuity. If the Temporal Cold War was removed from the show and overall story, I would like Enterprise as much as any trek series.

Voyager I hate, I was surprised to find anyone that would say it was their favorite series. (ok I don't really hate it, but I don't like it. Glad it exists though, at least there are about 20 episodes I enjoy. I don't think that's good out of 7 seasons, but its better than nothing I suppose.)

You might want to include a smiley next time to indicate sarcasm, Jaespol. It's too easy to believe someone might say that, given how many people on this site actually say things like that - not exactly that way, of course. They normally use a lot more words.

Actually, saying something so plainly might be an improvement for some of them. :p

No need for smilies here, it was obvious. The fact that no one would phrase it like that should heighten your suspicions.

I liked Enterprise too, it got so good in their third season :(
If only they had waited a good few years before trying to make another trek series.

The DS9 love and the VOY hate. I watched the first couple of seasons of DS9 and lost interest...

At least the DS9 love has me considering giving the series a second chance.

I always wondered if it was burnout. DS9 was enjoyable because they really dug into the characters, we really got to know them, some great heroes and some deliciously over the top villains. For me, VOY was a bit washed out in those terms. Everything had a perfunctory grayness to it. That may be my own perceptions, and I have good friends who would definitely say so, but it's just not interesting to me. That being said, there are some great characters on the show. Janeway, Tuvok, EMH, B'Elanna, Tom Paris and Seven of Nine. Lots of good work and interaction between these characters. There were some poignant episodes that I liked from VOY. One of these days I'm going to give the show another chance and watch them again.

I hated Star Trek The Motion Picture however I love Nemesis and First Contact. I think Jadzia Dax is hot and I loved her character.

'The blue porn room' was actually a decon chamber. I find that surprising. :rommie:
Indeed. Was it sold on the basis that users can "Trade the diseases you picked up on an alien world for the more familiar and treatable diseases of your co-workers"?

If they were serious, they'd have worn encounter suits and used an ordinary ultraviolet decon chamber. I never understood why they had to contrive sex, or sexiness in general. Would people have been incensed if it just turned out that the population on a co-ed, semi-civilian spaceship screws? Shocking idea, that, I know.

Shocking? No, surprising!!
